Default Idle/running issues with FM Voodoo II status post timing belt replacement

Hey guys, Having some problems with my 99 nb with fm voodoo II. Please make me love her again.
I bought the car with the voodoo II turbo kit installed about 8000 miles and 6 months ago.
I took it across the country, did tail of the dragon, even covered 800 miles in a day once without a single hiccup.
Fast forward one month ago, the timing belt snapped after I hit a toll bridge entrance. Problem? Yes, Fixable? Yes
I get it fixed, runs fine for 70-100 miles and I get off the highway and start entering stop and go traffic, clutch in, clutch out etc which gave me a horrible idle dip that got worse and worse and took longer and longer to build revs till it eventually stopped going at all and eventually stalled. I get the car towed to a regular, reputable mechanic (friend who is a dealer used him exclusively) and finds 0 fuel pressure, the car gets a new fuel pump but car still ran like crap with poor throttle response when cold but better when the car was warm. Car was with mechanic for 5 weeks and he couldn't find anything else wrong with any of the sensors (TPS, MAF), timing, vacuum, fuel pressure so he said it must be a problem with my tuning/turbo which he did not have the expertise to deal with.
I pick the car up to tow it to over to a friend who has built a couple turbo miata's for his experitse, and I was able to drive it on to the tow truck fine without stalling.
I test drove it briefly after dropping it off and it ran fine until I came to a stop where the idle dipped to about 400-500, and wouldn't come back up with throttle at all but didn't stall, I clutch and feather the throttle slowly and it eventually came back to normal again but it took a solid 15-20 seconds so this is where we are now.
I have searched this and the regular miata forums and I have not gotten any solid answers for things that haven't been over by the mechanic.
Would appreciate any advice and wisdom from this community!
Thank You

Does it rev very slowly, or lazily? I had a 1993 at one time that I did a timing belt job on, first time for everything and was one tooth off on the intake, crappy idle, very lazy revs, sounds more like a vacuum leak myself though from what you are describing.

Sounds like the problem I had with my 99 about 6 mo ago. Mine was a bad connection in the plug for the fuel pump.

When the engine stalls turn the key forward without turning it over and listen for the fuel pump. If you don't hear the fuel pump even though you know it is good then it might be the plug. To check for the plug remove the fuel pump cover and push the wires in going into the plug. Then turn the key forward again without turning it over. If the fuel pump kicks in then that is probably the problem. Unplug it and check to see if the contacts are dirty or black.
Mine was over heated from the bad contact and melted part of the plastic. I fixed mine by splicing in a plug from a used harness I bought from Ebay.
