more boost.

Alright, I have been runing the greddy for a couple weeks now, and got all the leaks figured out:) So I think its time for a bit more boost. I have on the way:

walbro 190hp fp
set of vortech disc
bipes
265cc 1.8l injectors (purple top)
ACT XT Street clutch

I already have a 12x18x3 IC with stripes pipes.

Am I good for about 8 or 9psi with this set up? Soon ill have the bell greddy DP and 3" enthuza exhaust.

And I will be getting a wideband soon, as for the size disc in the vortech, I was thinking 8:1 or 7:1?

Yeah. You should be fine for trhat amount of boost.
BUT
Make sure you install things ONE by ONE and when you turn the boost up, Do it A little by Little!
Trust me..
Its the way I Wish I did it : /
And there isnt a 7:1 Disc..
Right?

jtpaintballwdp 10-25-2007 08:30 PM

hmmm 8:1 ill probably go with 8:1 then, i dont want to go to lean till i get my WB o2 to see where im at.

Slidin'Miata916 10-25-2007 08:54 PM

then go wtih a 10:1 just to be sureeeee :0)

rotaryjunky 10-25-2007 09:47 PM

Hmmm, the wideband really needs to go in first. That's kinda what its for. Trust me, you can't always assume what works in others cars will give you the same results. And you can then sleep well at night.

jtpaintballwdp 10-25-2007 09:55 PM

Yeh i kinda had a feeling that was gonna be an issue.

drftem 10-25-2007 10:36 PM

what are you doing as far as timing?

Savington 10-25-2007 10:39 PM

You aren't good for anything until you get a wideband.

Once you get a wideband, though, that setup should be gold for 10psi. Just make SURE you don't go lean, and make sure you keep detonation in check. You should have no problems with the Bipes and that IC though.

You will probably want to add an O2 clamp later to prevent lean tip-in during cruise. Otherwise your setup looks good.

I would say marginal @ 8 psi w/ the open exhaust and those injectors. When I replaced my downpipe, I got a crazy boost spike that overwhelmed the 1.8 tan top injectors. I had plenty of fuel for up top, but not enough to satisfy the boost spike. Your purple tops should do you better though.

*drool* sounds like a nice daily setup without worrying about high intake temps

jtpaintballwdp 10-25-2007 11:40 PM

wideband it is, thanks guys.

jtpaintballwdp 10-25-2007 11:53 PM

What is the fucking obsession with widebands? I remember when they were too expensive for most people and nobody had them and guess what, people still went fast and didn't blow motors. Granted, it's a great tool to have but this idea that it's a requirement, and you're an idiot if you don't have one, is off base. I'd get knocksense before I got a wideband.

Braineack 10-26-2007 05:30 PM

the the key to tuning is the fuel and spark.

if you have absolutely no idea what your AFR is, then you lost half the battle. yeah you can scoot by with math equations, but how good are they?

do you know what happens at 5.5K?

jwarriner 10-26-2007 05:41 PM

In the past my philosophy was to tune by knock. I put in injectors that I knew would be way more than enough then I set the boost where I wanted it and then I'd do some pulls and lean it out until I got knock and then make it a little richer. I did this on many cars making between 280-320hp on pump gas at over 15psi. I never had a wideband because when I sold my last Talon they were still like $1000. I'd definitely invest in one now. But my point is that the "you're an idiot if you don't have a wideband" crap is getting old.
