Tune by knock is the most retarded tuning philosophy in the world. The only reason nobody ran widebands back in the day was because they were fucking expensive and nobody except shops with dynos could afford them, like you said. Now that there are cheap controllers and cheap sensors, you can install one in your car for $250.
I could go on forever about how dumb your tuning methods are, if you really want me to. Telling people that a wideband is not necessary for designing your own turbo setup is just stupid, and I'm not surprised that people keep blowing shit up without them. |
How is tuning by knock dumb? I've made more power than 99% of this forum by tuning by knock and never blew an engine. Guess I am "retarded" according to all the guys who made 200hp with a Miata. :ugh2:

Maybe, at the time, it was a good way to do it, but now it would be considered a bad way to tune. You get a better tune with a WB, and datalogging, then you ever will with your ear.

but that's not tuning, that's just making due.
first time i ever went to a dyno i was down a crapload of power cause i was going rich as shit up top. at the same boost level i walked away with something like 20rwhp with a little tweaking of fuel and spark. |
Go tune a rotary by knock, then come back and tell me it isn't retarded.
After you pay for the engine rebuild, that is. |
