Motherfucking goddamn shit
 

I spent all fucking weekend making my exhaust and now either my manifold or my downpipe is cracked. It's loud as hell and it's coming from the engine bay, not underneath the car, so I know my exhaust is fine. It's either from the rear of the manifold or from the downpipe, I can't tell yet. The top of the manifold is fine. I felt around underneath the manifold and couldnt' feel any cracks either, so I dunno. A couple of the bolts felt loose and I went around and tightened them, but there was no improvement. Even if they were loose I don't think it would be that loud.

I've got the 4 basic relief cuts in my Greddy, but it looks like I should have done all fifty cuts that others have done.

I've blown gaskets and had it get pretty fucking loud. If something's cracked you should be able to see it I would think. Were you rough with the downpipe putting in the new exhaust?

Hmm. I'll check the downpipe gasket. The turbo to manifold gasket hasn't been touched, but the downpipe gasket could be pretty hogged out.

yeah, i blew a gasket once also and it was loud as fuck

start the car, get someone else to put their shoe over the exhaust pipe, put your hand under, youll surelly be able to feel the preassure leaving the crack

I don't know why, but this cracked me up.

Anyway, I bet it's the gasket since I just replaced the downpipe and that makes sense. Time to drop some knowledge on that bitch with some sandpaper and MDF. Hopefully I can get it done without taking the pipe and turbo off the car.

Only question is, how do I know when they're "done"?

Easy way to pin point cracks or leaks that way.

The gasket? You might see some exhaust soot that escaped to the outside edge of the gasket. Thus meaning air is making its way out of the gasket.

I had more problems than I could remember with gaskets throughout the years. Especially the turbo-dp one. Remove the gasket and if both surfaces are still in good shape and flat, you should be good.

Noooo, I mean the surfaces after I've sanded them. Maybe put my piece of MDF or glass on there and shine a flashlight through?
