Exclamation Need EMU help!!

Hello all,

I have not posted here much, but I am at my wits end trying to get the EMU running on my 05 MSM. Any help with the following problems will be great. i will explain as best I can.

I have been working with Gary@ Track Dog racing to get my EMU installed and tuned. Everything is in, but we have run into some problems that we cannot figure out. He has tuned 10+ SC miatas, but for some reason the MSM is different. If it helps I can have him send me whatever files you guys might need to see in order to help me out.

Everything starts and idles fine and will even run as long as you keep it under 5K rpms. When you accelerate near 5200-5400 the stock injectors go nuts and send the duty cycle to 80-100%, then 30, then 80 again and so on. Naturally the EMU follows that curve and adds where we have set it to add fuel. Even zeroed out, with the EMU adding or subtracting nothing the inj. signal bounces all over the place.

Any advise is appreciated.

TIA
Shawn

I'm having a similar issues. However, when I was running stock injectors I didn't have this problem. I noticed it when I added the 460cc injectors. I'm still trying to figure it out with the help of a few guys here. Are you using a greddy pressure sensor? FYI, mine is a 2004 MSM..same difference.

FYI, I do have a theory I want to try as soon as I get some time. My theory. On aftermarket miata that did not come with a turbo, there is only one MAP sensor, the one you add in and plug in the back of the EMU. On the MSM you have two, the factory one and the add in one going into the EMU. I'm wondering it they are somehow conflicting. My idea is to use the same pressure sensor for both. If you know the Voltage values for the fatory sensor you can use it, I'm not sure how to figure this out. Wire the greddy pressure sensor harness to the appropriate wires off the factory pressure sensor harnes. In the EMU drop down menu, select other, and add in the values from the factory sensor. I have know idea if this will work, but it sounds good in theory.

What version of the EMU software are you running? It's probably not relevant to your problems, but is relevant to me being able to look at the logs I am about to ask for.

Log the strange behavior, showing map sensor, rpm, ij in duty cycle, ij out duty cycle, and a/f ratio. Zip that and your map up and post them here and we will take a look if we can.

Hey Joe,

Any change the stock ecu is fighting the EMU? Would an 02 clamp keep the stock ecu in the dark and allow the emu to tune the fuel trim? Just a shot in the dark, but ...

He has the same issues and vehicle that you have been helping me with. I tryed unplugging the factory MAP sensor when I first installed my add in sensor and it wont take throttle inputs and I got a cell. Actually, it's a similar feel as the problem we are having only at lower RPM.

It will probably be Monday before I can look at them if you send them this weekend. I am on a dyno on Saturday and have an autocross on Sunday.

Hopefully you are on 2.13. I am in the middle of some tuning and don't want to upgrade right now.

I've tried mutiple setting, I don't think it's in the settings, I think it's in the MAP sensors. The factory sensor and the greddy sensor conflicting. If we run the greddy pressure sensor harness from the factory boost sensor, I think this may work. we would just need to determine which 3 wires off the factory sensor correspond to the 3 wires on the harness. Then splice into the 3 wires off the factory sensor to run to the EMU. That way both the ECU and the EMU is getting the same info. If someone can tell me which wire off the harness should go to which wire of the factory boost sensor I'd be willing to hack up my wires to give it a try.

Magma, if you don't mind, could I get some details on your set up for comparison.

1. Are you using a wideband and if so, what brand?
2. Are you using the greddy pressure sensor or the cheaper ebay version?
3. What size injectors are you using?
Thanks

I am using an Innovate LC-1 WB, I believe I have the greddy pressure sensor, and right now I have 330cc injectors in, but will probably drop down to 310 if we get it running.

I oreded my sensor off ebay. It looked like the greddy and the verbiage on the add led me to believe it was a greddy but it was a turbo something or other (off brand). I recently ordered the real greddy. I'll let you know if it makes any difference. I talked to Gary at Track Dog yesterday. We agreed to stay in touch in case one of us figured somehting out.

Also, if you get some time, if you could post your target AF map it would be appretiated, I'd like to compare it to mine. Do you have any other modifications? CAI, DP, exhaust, etc?

We have very similar setups. I am going to try a few things this weekend. If I have any luck I'll let you know.

I think I figured it out!!!! Today was the first time I hit redline in all gears. Short version. Make sure your lines to your stock boost sensor and 3 way vavle leading to the boost sensor are in tact like they came from the factory. The 3 way valve has a cap on the back of it. remove the cap and plug you greddy pressure sensor into it. That's it. If you want to know why it works I can fill you in if you want.
