I have a 2000 Miata that I've wanted to added some power to after I have finished my coilover install.

I live in California so power adding is strict with smog. I know that the FM kits are not carb legal but how much of a pain would it be to pass smog or uninstall back to smog?

In regards to the kits would it be suggested to just start slow with the voodoo kit or get the voodoo ii kit. The only difference is the added intercooler right?

I also want to feel confident that if I'm spending this type of money that the power difference and feel can truly be felt

I currently have a stock 2006, but will be going turbo this summer. My previous efr setup is now on soviets car making about 400whp. There is another member on here who is close by in mountain view who has a NA that is turbo right now, and I'm sure he'd give you a ride. His handle is MartinezA92 I think, or some variant of that.

I've been down this road.

There are NO TURBO KITS with a CARB EO# for any 2000 Miata.

Don't believe me? go here: Database: Aftermarket Parts Database of Executive Orders Scroll down to "LIST EXECUTIVE ORDERS BY DEVICE" and select "Turbocharger System / Turbocharger Modification." After the results page loads, hit Ctrl+F on your keyboard and search for "Miata."

There was ONE turbo kit approved for the 1999, made by FM or BEGi but now discontinued, that included the 99/00 CA emissions "pre cat" in the downpipe, but the EO was only good for the 1999 model year. Look up CARB EO D-349-1

The only person I can remember who had one was "Cordus" on this forum or on m.net, but he sold it years ago.

The only CARB legal CURRENT PRODUCTION forced induction for a 2000 Miata is the FFS MP62 Soopercharger. CARB EO D-617

Jackson Racing & Moss Motors used to sell an M45 based Supercharger kit with an EO that covered the 2000 (D-453-2, -3 -4 -5). Moss Motors also used to sell an MP62 based kit, CARB EO (D-453-7, -8) Both Moss products are discontinued. Kenne Bell built a supercharger for 2003 and older Miatas and had a CARB EO (D-271-14)

The Kraftwerks Rotrex based supercharger kits for the Miata were supposed to be CARB certified, but then the company imploded. The product was redesigned and re-released. No current EO for the Rotrex that I am aware of. They are still telling people it may get certified. Maybe.

If you want a turbo on a 2000 in California, you are going to have to remove and reinstall every 2 years and hope you don't get pulled over in the mean time.

Don't bother with the carb legal kits, they are ****. Take the turbo off every 2 years if you must. If you don't drive like an *** and have a relatively quiet exhaust, you will be left alone.

Thanks a lot for all of your help.

Now the question is more do I go with a pre-fab kit like a Voodoo II and be done with it or try to piece it together.

My assumption is that the pre-fabs are going to be more expensive, however, I was always horrible at puzzles, so it's probably better that I buy one already containing the parts rather then trying to figure it out myself.

Hello All,

I tried contacting FM about this question but it looks like they are swamped so maybe you guys may know.

My question was if they do PayPal payments and if they accept the "Bill Me Later" method. I know for my Mazdaspeed3, the company I order all my performance parts through grants the Bill Me Later financing. Just wanted to see if anyone knows the answer to this.

I've ordered things from FM a couple of times, I seem to remember them not accepting PayPal the last time I asked, but that may have been YEARS ago

In their FAQ, it notes that PayPal is accepted but you need to e-mail them. I e-mailed them about a week ago and no contact. They look to be swamped though with e-mails and calls cause I also tried to call and the line was busy.

Thanks for all of your insight guys. I've reached out to FM and spoke to them about the Voodoo II kit and I'm going to end up placing my order soon.

I've been thinking about smog and timing. I purchased the car in March of 2012 where the previous owner had to smog the car to sell to me.

The registration ended on August 22, 2012 in which I don't believe I had to smog the car when I renewed but I can't remember maybe I did? Just for my timing sake, would this year be the year I have to smog the car again? Or since it's a 2000 and smog is every 2 years, my next smog date would be August 2014. Sort of hoping it is this year so I can purchase the kit now and then install it after a smog to have a full 2 years of smog free hassle

I have a FFS kit on my 99. Passed CA smog with it about 6 months ago, however the lack of expansion and proper engine management leave something to be desired. I'm thinking of switching over to a FM II kit if I can get the current kit I have sold. It will be worth removing for smog biennially.
