Read his website. The $240 price is for just the mandrel-bent, tig-welded tubes; you need to source your own intercooler, clamps, hardware, etc. I think he wasn't making much of any profit off the whole kit for the $550 price.

Braineack 05-30-2007 11:03 PM

it's easier to source to just source everythign and buy his pipes...it's the reason he's doing it that way anyways...instead of him sourcing it all, sitting on it and then just sending it your ways anyway.

ST2udent 05-30-2007 11:03 PM

If you read the thread you'd know the reduced cost is because it comes with pipes only. I don't think stripes wanted to hold a stockpile of intercoolers couplers and clamps he wasn't gonna make money on so he let people source it themselves. You're welcome

ST2udent 05-30-2007 11:04 PM

damn owe you a coke!

Slidin'Miata916 05-30-2007 11:13 PM

Dam. thats pricey : / lol Thanks for cleaing that up :D

Braineack 05-30-2007 11:17 PM

then dulicate it yourself and stop complaining....if you excede the cost, precede to kick yourself.

Damn seems like people want everything for nothing these days. I guess that's what we have China for. Just the agrivation alone of thinking about getting pipes to fit in the tight spaces makes this kit worth the money. I didn't get done as much as I thought since I started at 9 and drank a bottle of champagne. Heres what I did:
Jacked the car up finally
Took off the lower splash tray
Made brackets
Test fitted the piping going to the TB

Here are the pics
So here are some of the clearances. It looks like it's about a quarter inch everywhere and that's good enough for me.

Thank god for e-code H4's

So I didn't really understand where the vertical brackets on mx5projects were supposed to go. Nonetheless I cut them to 5.25" and bent them at 1" with and made a hole with a 3/16" bit. Here is where I plant to bolt. Doing it this way I'll have to cut another long horizontal piece of 1/8" flatstock. Oh well

Those look like really nice couplers and clamps.

Well not everyone can fuckin afford that right away.....Im not saying thats way too much for the kit, im saying thats too much FOR ME. But i am half way of having all the money for the kit Lol. :gtfo:

I guess I never sent you install instructions. Your intercooler looks a little low and you may have clearance issues. I will send them to you now and also post them on my website for everyone to view.

Sorry for the confusion, but this is an old link and needs to be removed:

People must be referencing this web page from old posts. I guess I need to put a redirect on it.

Beautiful kit. I will be a future customer. Keep up the good work.

ST2udent 05-31-2007 09:42 AM

Thanks stripe. I can get a half inch more when I use the 1" bar stock I still have. This thread is the best advertising.

Slidin'Miata916 05-31-2007 10:20 AM

Hay, can you make me pipes for an intercooler if i give you the deminsions of it? its probably gonna be a stock front mount IC from an FC rx7

that7guy 05-31-2007 07:49 PM

Looks like you have more clearance then me. I think i'm doing something wrong. I made the mistake of taking off the pipes after john helped me adjust them and now i cant get them back. Oh well at least they aren't rubbing anything....And they are shiny now too!

Braineack 05-31-2007 07:58 PM

pics pics pics....make sure that you butt the pipes up to each other where couplers are needed...

ST2udent 06-01-2007 02:24 AM

I made some more progress tonight. I scrapped the old cross piece and used the flatstock. Here is the alternate bracket method I used. I didn't really measure other than getting the intercooler high and centered. The verticals were bent at 45* and use stock frame nuts. Braineack is right about not needing the lower brackets. It is quite immobile but can take vibrations. If you look at the picture I will have to groove out part of the hood latch bracket. I'd say other than that look out for clearance issues at the low pressure(larger) a/c hardline and the oil return which can get damaged quick from the alternator belt/pulley. I'll work on the compressor side piping tomorrow.

Quick question I hope someone can answer before I get going on it tomorrow.
There are 2x 2" elbows; one with a small leg and one with a long leg. Which of these is used just after the very short 150* elbow coming off the compressor

Oops didn't see this post!
Hehe no doubt you are a little bias. Northern Cali represent! I'm super stoked my local grocer is finally carrying sixers of the IPA and my bar now carries the imperial lager. My first experience with it was not so good though. I should be weary of any beer with the word "imperial"
1 pitcher imperial lager+smoking a sticky bone=:owned:

The longer leg is used just after the compressor elbow.

Also, nice mounting bracket. If this works out for you, I may add this method to my website as another option.
