Nope. My craftsman offset worked perfect for it. The wrench is probably 15-20 years old, so maybe that has something to do with it. Maybe cheaper materials required them to make it a little thicker.

I'll just put us in the smarter than the rest category :P

i know this is a bit old but will reply to it for any one installing a begi kit since it has the same manifold (assuming you didnt buy the tube manifold). You have to tighten all the inaccessible bolts little by little all at the same time. The manifold is made so it has the most space for a wrench closest to the flange. In other words if you cant tighten all the nuts all the way by hand you will need to pull the manifold outwards and then spin the wrench

I used a bicycle sheet metal wrench to get that nut snug and then used an open wrench to tightened it hard.

Im gonna have to borrow yours in a few weeks ;)

took me about 15 hours to do my first turbo install. same setup on chapman's car took us close to 2 weeks i believe but we also did ecu and got baked. my first turbo removal took just under 5 hours.

ive used one as well. i did my install at friends shop and he had one of those in his private collection of antique tools.

Interesting solution from the DESIGNER of the manifold, why fix the problem properly when you can leave your customers in the dark to build their own kludge.

There is no BS. 90% of the people out there use regular tools. It is not that the manifold is designed improperly, it is that one nut/stud is really hard to reach. And would be so with any manifold. A customer showed Tim a set of tools like it. He liked them so much better than a normal wrench, that he made his own instead of buying one.

I was able to use a regular wrench when I had the FM manifold. My days of wrenching on my 300ZXs taught me a lot about using tools by feel.

My Absurdflow FM/Begi replacement manifold has enough clearance that that nut was a non-issue.

Thanks for bumping an old thread :(. It was a matter of getting familiar with the engine and not the tools, my fault. Although an offset wrench would help for one of two of the manifold/turbo nuts. I've had the manifold/turbo off 4-5 times since his thread and it's pretty routine by now.

I can't see what the big deal is. I just had Chuck Norris stare at the nut, and it promptly threaded itself into position.
