Spool on stock greddy kit

At what RPM are you making max boost at? Did a search and didnt find too much info on the stock greddy kit. I have a 90 1.6 with stock greddy downpipe, and stock exhaust. I'm running 5psi of boost and I'll hit max boost at 5000 rpm. Does that sound right or does it seem a bit late?

I'm getting a downpipe and exhaust made this week, removing the cat as well so hopefully it will help the spool.

Braineack 04-12-2009 07:48 PM

it will help it signifcantly.

this was rappadan's greddy:

12psi at 3800RPM

It'll help a lot, the Greddy downpipe is horrible.

5000 RPM still sounds a bit late. Make sure you don't have any exhaust leaks and that the there's no play on the wastegate flapper arm.

Just by tightening the wastgate rod you can hit max boost nearly 1000RPM earlier.

BoostTed 04-12-2009 10:47 PM

Thanks guys, I'll take a look at the waste gate rod tomorrow night

BoostTed 04-12-2009 11:22 PM

I tighten the rod by following these instructions right?

Yes.

holy crap.. adjusting the WGA made a huge difference. It seriously feels like a completely different car now.

Thanks guys

I'm sure you know, but tightenting the arm has increased your boost a bit too. So you did compensate for this with fueling and timing right!!!!

It feels completely new because you're boosting more psi AND faster!

kotomile 04-14-2009 09:35 AM

Or, like most Greddy kits, the wastegate flapper is loose from the factory and tightening the rod a smidge takes up the slack. When I got my Greddy, the flapper was so loose you could hear it rattling. Two turns on the rod took up the slack, leading to faster spool but no increase in boost.

Static disc regulator. Adjusts itself according to boost.

Untill it asks for more pressure than the fuel pump can provide.

Chris_Himself 04-14-2009 03:53 PM

I'm not sure the OP wants to run 10psi on band-aids, hes just trying to get a little quicker spool. But yes you are right.

.... and the RR-AFPR sorts the timing too yeah?
:-)

But yes, my arm was loose fromt he factory too, so just getting it *taught* is probably no issue at all.

You might need to worry if you've wound it back to as short as it will go, I was boosting to 8-9 psi like this.

urgaynknowit 04-15-2009 12:42 PM

on a stock greddy kit, expect to see boost at 4k or later

throw some mods at it, and you can see it much lower with much higher boost levels
iv had two greddy kits and both spooled fully around 3400 wth 11 psi

Hmm, mine used to spool real low and quick like 1.8-2.4k and bov always seemed to release a lot of air between shifts but now it seems to reach full boost 5-6psi at about 4-5k rpm. I have a turbo tony dp and large fmic , forge bov, custom 2.5" exhaust and high flow cat. No changes to amything since turbod. Any ideas as to why the car seems to spool longer now?

check for boost leaks

kotomile 04-15-2009 09:12 PM

...and exhaust leaks. (pre-turbo)

check the waste gate, might not be tight

Even better solution - replace the can with one that's eaten some spinach. ;)
