turbo kits

I gotta newb question. Has any one bought an eBay turbo kit and made decent hp? Like 300 hp or close? If so how reliable is it before I have to start changing out parts for quality parts? And I mean with pretty good engine management. I been lookin on eBay for a pretty complete kit but I don't wanna buy one if it ain't gonna last a while with a good tune. I have a pretty good built motor but I'm not gonna swap it in till I have everything to get it running good! Lemme know!

Without being a complete dick (which is precisely what you'll get from most about this topic):

Did you even bother to search? Do so before this thread turns into a shitstorm. There have been countless threads about this before you and they will answer all of your questions.

Well I searched through the eBay turbo kits thread but haven't found anything about power made with them or how long any one lasted with a good tune before anything broke! I figured some people were gonna flame me but I was hoping someone would answer me that have dealt with them!

Most of the users here run the bone stock ebay kits without any part swapping. Those kits really are a great deal. With the number of kits those guys are selling to the miata community, it's a wonder they haven't increased prices.

Jeff is one of the few that don't run the ebay kit. He pretty much bashes them every chance he gets and tries to push noobs toward his favorite kit, the FFS coldside kit.

I highly recommend the kit from ilovetacotaco. Search on eBay for it.

Does that one hit the block?

Goddamn right. How the fuck do people still not get it? Adding a 5th injector is the only proper way to intercool your air charge. That's how we can get it down to only 200-275% of ambient temp. Plus the TORQUE! Jesus Christ you've never seen so much torque. Show me a turbo making as much torque as we are and everyone gets a free BJ.

EVERYONE.

Thanks. I didn't want to recommend a bad kit to the OP. so tacotaco=nohitblock. Commit that shit to memory.

Eunos93 07-21-2011 09:49 PM

Jeff what does your kit run for and what does it come with?

Doppelgänger 07-21-2011 09:54 PM

That's the ilovetacotaco kit from ebay. The pics on ebay don't look like that because they are generic pictures. Jeff's picture is the actual kit. I went with the FM kit but it doesn't make the power I want....so I'll be upgrading to the ilovetacotaco kit when I get my tax return next year.

240_to_miata 07-21-2011 09:54 PM

I really hope you arent taking these guys seriously. Ill help you cause I see you are from CT and we need more turbo miatas.

DONT even look at any ebay "kits". Hell, most of the people on this forum dont even have "kits" . We usually piece together our turbo projects.

Do your research, learn your car, and PLEASE stop taking everything people say on this forum as truth. They love fucking with people like you who actually are stupid enough to ask this question.

Eunos93 07-21-2011 10:29 PM

Thanks lol! Well right now I have $1500 to play with, I just want a 300whp setup comfortably! I'm all alone out here, all of my friends are Honda and Nissan lovers and they all help eachother out and make fun of me cuz I chose to.do a miata. I like civics and sentras but I see them too much so I decided to be different so if I knew someone with a miata it would help out!

shuiend 07-21-2011 10:37 PM

$1500 wont get you into the 300hp range with any sort of reliability.

jasonrobo02 07-21-2011 10:41 PM

Now that the cat's out of the bag, you shoudl really search a bit. This forum has some great sticky's that will educate you on what to look for in a kit or diy turbo project. 300hp as a goal is a bit lofty, especially for $1500. Talk to some locals and maybe get some rides in 150, 200, 250 hp miatas so you can better hone your goals.

Eunos93 07-21-2011 10:42 PM

Yea shuiend that's what I kinda figured that's why I was basically asking if any one made anything close with an eBay kit on a good tune lol!

Eunos93 07-21-2011 10:57 PM

Yea Jasonrobo02 I get it this is why I usually stay quiet on forums!
