Default HKS turbo kit?

Hey everyone, so I've lurked on the site but I've got a real question now. To be honest I wasn't planning on going turbo until at least next summer, but someone listed up an HKS turbo kit locally for a grand. Figure it's cheap enough but I dont know anything about the HKS kit.

Anyways, this is what's included. Doesn't appear to include tuning. Also he says it's water and oil cooled but I only see two lines (unless they were missing from the pics.

So what are your guys thoughts? For another $400 I could just buy the shanghai kit and it would theoretically come with everything I need, but this is local, and cheaper.

Saw that on CL. Unless you get off on mad tyte JDM, I'd wait for something with a little more known history and support. Or, if you are in the mood to experiment, go DIY and skip the HKS stuff.

That's the thing, I'm not really keen on experimenting and I do want something that has background. Now if it were a greddy kit I'd be more likely to pull the trigger but I honestly havent heard anything about the hks kit.

I'd just skip it then. As you mentioned earlier it might be incomplete, lack of any fueling & ignition control and really has zero support on this board. If you get this kit up and running and something breaks...what then? Can you find reasonably priced replacement parts for this kit?

I'd just stick with the shanghai. If I could go back a year I would have just the bought shanghai instead of putting my own kit together.

exactly, I'd be buying myself into a ton of problems. It's one thing because the car isn't my daily, but I also dont want the car to be down the entire summer because I cant get this kit to run right. Thanks again for the insight everyone.

Don't forget to mention how low you EGT's will be and how much weight you'll save. Turbo's are way too heavy to have any real world benefit.

The HKS is a good kit, but that one is definitely incomplete. It came with a mini f-con to manage the fuel, and that manifold looks pretty haggard.

I'd probably buy it for $400.

I do wonder what turbo it is? A GT2530? If it is, that's a very good turbo... ball bearing and good for 300whp on a RB20 (they made a similar kit for it... and I had one which is why I know )
