We run an ITA and FProd Miata in the SCCA at the regional level.

Right now we're doing the standard remote oil filter mounts with spin-on filters and the front mount oil coolers found on the first two generations of RX-7.

We're planning to add Accusumps to the cars, and while we're in there we were thinking of adding an Oberg style filter to just keep an eye on things. Henry wants to be able to inspect for any signs of bigger particulate between changes, and cutting open the spin-on filters is possible, but not the most enjoyable thing.

Then he had the idea of simply replacing the spin-on filter in his car with the Oberg filter and changing the oil more often. He figures this will also have the benefit of bumping the oil pressure back up a bit after we've added the extra lines for the Accusump.

I suggested that I'd rather run an Oberg and spin-on together, or switch over to something like a CM filter rather than just running the Oberg. I'd want more filtering, even with more frequent changes. The CM would allow us to inspect the filter elements fairly easily.

So now I'm looking for feedback from people who have run a combination system like I mentioned, or any feedback on the CM stuff, or thoughts on just running the Oberg alone.

I have absolutely no experience on this subject, but maybe another possibility would be to run 100% of the oil through the Oberg style filter, and also run a ~ 2 micron bypass style filter. I am not sure if you could run the outlet of the Oberg to the bypass filter, but in my mind that would be a good way to keep big stuff out of the bypass and get the most filter life out of it.

Hell, photoshop cats stuck in oil filters if you want. Filters up to one "cat-tron".

Dunno, but I would just send an oil sample for testing.

 

Peterson Fluid Systems has a whole series of in-line oil filters. Easy to work with, put it in an AN line.

 

I'll take a look at Peterson's offerings.

Right now I'm looking at this from CM.

 

Bringing this thread back from the dead, a 2024 honda accord (any engine) oil filter fits great too, about an inch longer than the miata one and same bypass pressure
