Default AutoX SSM: New OEM NA carpets & pad/sound dent

So I know this is prob the worse race prep question, but it is for my autox SSM "race car", '93 white w/ blk interior. I have to have the factory carpets and sound dent/insulation under it per the rules. The last owner did all kinds of drilling & mounting, that let lots of metal shavings work into the carpet. I've tried to clean/sweep multi times and I've just given up to be honest. Plus not to mention the 20 years of dirt/stains in the carpet.

I looked into used carpets on ebay but they look 20 years old, well because they are. I wanted a fresh start, but I don't want some boob protesting me because it's an aftermarket carpet and might weigh 1/2lb less. Even though my car is over min weight.

Are there any new factory reproduction carpets out there for our cars? Same material, weight, design, etc.

Thx guys.

have you tried mazdaspeed development? I think they have the stock carpet, but its probably expensive.

Are you planning on taking this thing to nationals? If not, I wouldnt worry too much about it being exactly like OEM. My SSM car's carpet is very hacked up due to installing multiple race seats, roll bars, etc... I'm even missing a few interior panels. No one has ever said a thing.

Even if you come to nationals, if someone protests you for putting an NB carpet into an NA I will personally punch them in the dick for you. We don't like weenie protests in SSM.

Yes he is bringing it to Nationals. It will possibly be the most amazing AutoX Miata on earth. The rest of us SSM Miata guys need to take notice. I have been following this build...and I'm nervous....Carter should be too.

I was looking into replacement carpet before I decided to just yank it out (track car - still in there but it's going). There are companies that claim to make OEM-like molded new carpets. Do a Google for "miata carpet" and some will appear as ads or search results.

You can just put the NB carpet in it. It weighs more or less the same, is a whole lot nicer, and is actually legal with up date back date.

Hell, I would've thought aftermarket carpet would fall under the "comfort & convenience" clause in stock, as long as it's not lighter than OEM or serving dual duty as a nitrous reservoir.

+1.

And if somebody was to protest the use of aftermarket carpet in a Miata especially in a modified class they should be publicly flogged by the rest of the SCCA competitors. There should also be some leeway on weight as there is an overall weight limit anyway.

SM classes have the "no weenie" clause. Aftermarket carpet is ok.

I think the OP is trying to find if said aftermarket carpet even exists. I don't think it does, which is why I suggested an NB carpet.

There's lots of aftermarket carpets available.

What he was asking is whether or not there's a 100% true to factory specs aftermarket carpet.

What about the weenie protest for the front splitter last year in SSM? That was pretty stupid. Especially since it was all because the mount scheme had wallowed out.

I agree it was stupid, but on the flip side, there's a very specific set of rules concerning aero in SM.

The "Weenie Rule" specifically applies to tiny little modifications with cutting to fit other things, carpet bullshit like this thread, and the like.

The aero protest was at its core, legit. Just not handled in a respectable manner.

I hung out with Jake "laser level eyeball" Namer at nats a bit. He filed that protest under "instantly regretted".

Yes the car will be going to Nationals, the NB option is a great idea and honestly something I never thought about. The main reason for my posting this question was from fear of a stupid protest.

Eric thanks for the kind words about my build, I'm still worried about you and your car, esp after a few evo schools.
