Carbontrix extractor scoop
So I just added one of these this weekend in preparation for the inevitable South Texas summer heat. This is the Carbontrix 18x10 Hood Scoop
http://www.carbontrix.com/store/inde...products_id=91 There was a thread about this way back when https://www.miataturbo.net/showthrea...highlight=hood It only took about two hours start to finish so it is a pretty easy job. I am going to add a few more rivets eventually but it will work fine as-is. The part that take the longest is taping and measuring everything very carefully to make sure it goes on straight and centered. I also made a pattern from cardboard to mark the hole in the hood where I would be cutting. I used a sabre saw and a fine tooth (32 TPI) Bosch metal cutting blade. Pretty easy overall. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jh2HiMm4nKQ/S8...0/P4120019.JPG http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jh2HiMm4nKQ/S8...0/P4120021.JPG |
Looks pretty good... Make sure to report temperature differences upon running it at the track.

Don't you wish somebody just sold a normal flat miata hood w/o that bubble?
|
I think the main thing about this is that it is proven to be functional and is quite cheap. Ideally I would want a wider vent with a small raised lip at the front. Similar to what Matt was running on his car... But for the money, you can't beat this setup.
|
Don't park your hood next to my hood, lol.

True... This should perform as well as the Mini scoop since it is basically a composite replica of the same part IIRC.

I think it is actually bigger than the cooper scoop.

Yes it will certainly improve radiator air flow and should drop the pressure under the car a bit.
I want a bunch of shit. No money. |
Can you post a picture of the underside? As you know, we are kind of limited on room, and I'm even more so with the taurus fan.
I have this scoop sitting here with the hood in the loft. |
I'll snap some pictures this evening and post them up. I looked at that clearance briefly and the underside of the scoop only protrudes down just a bit below the hood braces, like less than 1/2" IIRC.
|
So I looked at it this evening. The bottom edge of the scoop, the part that protrudes into the engine bay, is no deeper than the ribs on the hood frame.
|
We have 3 on the way here in Corpus. Might try to do a write up, but its pretty easy IMO.
|
Yes not bad at all. I think the big tip on this one is, if you use a sabre saw, to be sure to get a fine tooth metal cutting blade. A wood blade will not work well at all and would probably just trash your hood. Obvious, but worth mentioning.
|
I might be doing this... Good post.
|
this is what phil had and gave me
|
Mine is for sale here on the board for a loss. My hood is coming in for TWS and I don't need it now.
