Drifting

I just ordered some Teins...and need to know how to set them up for mad sideways action. Who has the answer?

mgeoffriau 02-16-2010 03:59 PM

Install them backwards, that should negatively affect your rear traction.

Jeff_Ciesielski 02-16-2010 04:02 PM

Install them, and then cut the springs for that mad tyte JDM stance!

This plus crisco on the tires. Front too for increased odds of hitting a tree or telephone pole.

Sorry, I've been in a useless post kind of mood all day. Something about having to train new people at work brings it out in me.

Get yourself a 240sx. Single cam, open diff, and coilovers is all you need. OR if you get lucky you can find a RHD straight from Japan. Its easier to drift.

Go to M.net, they will put up with your shit there, drifter fag! :loser:

gospeed81 02-16-2010 05:35 PM

You haters need to back the fuck off.

Doriftoing is a motorsport too, which requires getting the most out of your car, and mad skillz...like car control.

I just asked a simple question about suspension setup, something I thought you Miata fags knew a lot about, and ya'll act all homo and shit.

Screw you mother fuckers...I'm going back to the Suby scene.

dustinb 02-16-2010 05:39 PM

The key is to hit 15,000rpm in 4th gear at 21 psi.

21psi is for newbs.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 02-16-2010 05:56 PM

Whats the biggest rear sway bar you can pot in a miata?

also, I heard that welding your differential is better than an LSD? confirm or deny.

Already done...wtf does this have to do with my suspension. Go start your own damn thread.

slutz4 02-16-2010 06:17 PM

what version did you order? basic, ss, flex, mono..

SS

Now please tell me you actually have some real advice...

Actually I want to keep from drifting. Anybody else run these?

What works to remove oversteer short of swapping springs?

These will see AutoX action soon. Stiffest I want for the street, and should be good enough to knock some cones over.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 02-16-2010 06:21 PM

Then more negative camber you have the better the handling

step 1, sell your car.

I don't even measure camber in degrees...I measure that shit in which mountain in the background my tire's pointing to.

*I also measure ride height using housekeys.

I would drive it to your mother's house, matter of fact I think that pic was taken when she was in it.

Braineack 02-16-2010 07:03 PM

more negative in the front than rear = win. no joke.

yah, from what I understand many run with the absolute maximum negative camber in the font possible.
But you dont usually see that, you see this

Don't forget these wheels, 16x12's 0mm offset, with 185/35/16 tires and 15 degrees of negative camber. Also, itb's AND a supercharger.

Edit: forgot the Drift knob.

slutz4 02-16-2010 07:42 PM

What spring rates did you go with? This thread is getting a bit outta hand lol, but I gotta say you asked for it..

chicksdigmiatas 02-16-2010 07:51 PM

100 in the front, 1300 in the rear.

TURNS101 02-16-2010 08:03 PM

Wow, this shit is insane.
Piston rotary, backward 13000lbs springs. Good prep for drift.

Just set them up like a regular track car..... You want all the traction you can get... Please dont bring the drift community down much further..

It's amazing, normally the car has normal camber and a 13.5'' ride height... :bowrofl: I don't want to spill any drift secrets, but I hear lunch trays help us FWD people.

Amazingly, I found it by searching Google images with..."Mormon". Didn't even have to add additional words.

The internet makes this too easy.

spoolin2bars 02-16-2010 08:56 PM

no rear bar, 3/4 up from full soft up frt., 1/2 way up in the rear. 12.5'' ride height all around, -1.25deg. frt. / -1.75rr., 3.5-4.0deg. caster, run a couple psi higher up frt. compared to rear tires. this is assuming r-comps and driving the shit out of it. if you can't drive it to it's limits then this will be a little understeery for you.

NA6C-Guy 02-16-2010 08:58 PM

Only 1/2? You're no fun.

mgeoffriau 02-16-2010 09:00 PM

And in other news, I just watched a commercial from the local Ford dealer. The owner of the dealership was wearing a black turtleneck, a beret, and sunglasses. He growled "Pants on the ground" while the ventriloquist's dummy next to him played the bongos. And yes, it was amazing. I wish I had been drinking when I saw it.

God dammit.
First day as a mod, I'm away from a computer for 3 hours, and you guyz give me this?!? Where's the select-all-and-delete button...

if ANYONE in the future actually looks at this:

How to increase understeer:

Raise front tire pressure
Lower rear tire pressure
Smaller front tire section
Larger rear tire section
More positive front wheel camber
More negative rear wheel camber
Stiff front springs
Softer rear springs
Stiffer front anti-roll bar
Softer rear anti-roll bar
Weight distribution towards the front

How to increase oversteer:
Lower front tire pressure
Raise rear tire pressure
Larger front tire section
Smaller rear tire section
More negative front wheel camber
More positive rear wheel camber
Softer front springs
Stiffer rear springs
Softer front anti-roll bar
Stiffer rear anti-roll bar
Weight distribution towards the rear

Now all of you go do all of the things under "How to increase oversteer" and go hit a light pole.

chicksdigmiatas 02-16-2010 10:35 PM

How to increase understeer:
Mount a vertical/horizontal stabilizer off a DC-9 to the back of your volvo?

How to increase oversteer:
Dual fart cans.
Graphics around your taillights.
200 dollar ebay body kit.
Paint your car the color of a rotten orange.
Euroclears.
20 inch rims with 20 profile tires.

http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/att...wing_ricer.jpg

This vehicle is clearly at the pinnacle of drifting technology.
