Mounting front flares - they match the curvature of the body well. Naturally, I have trim these to fit with the skirts and lip...

Rears quarters will need a lot of trimming. I had planned on keeping the skirts, but the more I look at it the more I'm thinking of leaving them off (that and less work trimming them or the flares just to find out it looks gay and can sell after)

It looks like the rears don't go all the way down to the bottom of the rear bumper cover?

Yep, I'm a lazy bastard and other things keep distracting me like the ZX9 that I picked up from ZXTex last week. Trying to get it running before it's too hot to ride it. And I have been doing a lot of track days with the SM recently...I like driving better than wrenching lately.

I'm curious to see if your set of flares even matched what he sent me. They certainly don't match the ones on the silver car posted where he advertises them. They are close, but not the same.

My car is finally on the lift ready to be worked on (installing the lift was yet another distraction). I think I have some form of attention deficit disorder for sure.

Alright, here we go. I need some help here....

I got my set today and studied install orientation for two hours. I rec'd a correct pair of each F/R. I would tape them on, walk away and come back later, swap F/R, repeat. At the end of this I elected to put the 'non-flanged' flares up front as the front wheels need more room being articulated, and put the 'flanged' flares on the rear. The 'Flange' I am referring to on the flare is basically where they emulated the flat OEM body line around the wheel arches.

I went All In and drilled the holes.

The flare up-down locations are dictated by the curves of the body. You will notice the fronts do not come down as far as the rears. That's the way it fits the car.

I really like the 'flanged' flares and have them hanging on the rear. GeneSplicer has his mounted on the front. His pic of the rear shows the 'non-flanged' on the rear and just how much area is exposed.

My opinion is that the kit should be four flanged flares. They look great and I think the fit is close enough that it would work. I wanted to get these on for the weekend at Road Atlanta but I'm now thinking I will hold out and try to get another pair of what I have on the rear. There is no viewing angle I can imagine that the front flares won't show way too much of the inner fender and create way too much fender gap.

Thoughts?

Honestly, I was scratching my head as to which flare went where. My choosing when by how well it lined with the panels. I'd agree with you though... flanges all around

After studying Gary's site, I think I have determined the intent of the front/ flangeless flares. the DP car ran cantilevers, 10.1 section width and 23.1 diameter. So they are basically perfect for the 275/35 Hoosier, which is the end game here. I'll just have to adjust to the look and fender gap with the Hankook 225 street tires. Oh well. thought I had 'holed it out' by going with zero offset 8" wheels for the street, which should be a really close frontspace match to the 10" wheels.

Heading down to the garage to make the cuts. I've mangled many cars in my past, but never a cherry 60k mile, non-salvage example. Oh well. They're all pink inside, right?

I wonder if ordering four "flanged" flares would work?

I'm liking these more and more each time I come back to this thread.

Based on GeneSplicer's fitment and what I saw swapping front rear multiple times, I'd say 4 rears would work, BUT not if you are planning to run the 275/35/15.

Got one side cut and ready to weld the inner/outer part of the quarter back together.
Had some code PT Chaste White leftover from previous project (back in 2005!) along with some hardener, so I scuffed all four and got them painted.

Here's some shot of how much was cut, and the white flares (barely) hung over the cuts to demonstrate what is visible at full droop. It'll get better on the ground, but the 1" tire diameter diff between the these 225s and the 275s is just going to result in a large gap.

I hit up Gary to see about ordering another pair of rears since it will be awhile before I get to mount the 275s....

Gary says:
"Hey Alan,

That was my last pair and as of right now I'm not laying anymore up. If I decide to make some more I'll let you know. Regards, Gary"

Group buy time!

Well then, that answers that. I too was thinking of getting another pair of rears. Maybe I'll make a form and duplicate my own.

wrapped these up today. Got the quarter welded back up and affixed the flares. The flares are not a laser perfect fit and would have shown an uneven gap on a white car, so I added some generic edge trim to give the eye a consistent line. Ready for Jongbloeds and 275s!

He had to have cut the rears as fronts (and vice versa) because the trim line matches perfectly... trying to put the non-flanged flares on the front gave gaps of almost 1/2"

Pic of flanged flare on the front drivers well.

Edit: they'll fit, but will have to do some trimming

I went round and round with him on this and he kept telling me he sent a set of front and rears...mine all have that flat edge on them, they match the ones that look to be the rears on his silver car.

So, I did a test fit of what I currently have on hand and they look to all be fronts...there is no way in hell they fit the rear.

Notice that they have the flat edge, not rounded. ZXTex still has another set that I need to get in my hands and test fit.

It's nice that now I have a couple of other people to compare notes with now. Maybe we can figure out what the f%*k goes where..
