Hmm... I wonder if there's really any difference between the MSM 'box and the non-MSM 'boxes of the same vintage. Knowing how automakers work (or don't), Mazda may have just shotpeened them all.

Is there a part number difference between MSM and non-MSM '04-'05 gearboxes?

I know most Automakers shotpeen all their gears regardless of model. At least ford does, so I'm guessing mazda does too. Msm
