I'm 6'1" and about 230 lbs. Because most of it is just dick weight, I have no trouble fitting in my 15" race seat:

I don't know a single person with a Miata to do a seat swap test fit. I lurked the "seat" thread and really couldn't find a solid answer. It seems many large guys go through a lot of trial and error before finding the right set up. I'm hoping an after market smaller steering wheel with quick release would yield more room.
I know anything is possible with fab work and bottom less pockets but my resources are very limited. |
I am 6'4" 260 and fit fine. I have Ultra Shield seat (similar to yours) bolted to the floor. I did pound down the floor and remove the seat rails though. You will also gain room by adding a steering wheel that is of a deep dish design and of course removable so you can get out. Let me know if you need photos or anything.

I play the can you get your hand in the car before the door slams game. There is a solution for this on m.net, but I don't know what that is.

I'm going to be the contrarian here and say that being 6'2" isn't what matters, what matters is how much of that is torso. I'm 6'1" with a 32" inseam and I'm pretty much pooched for headroom. Second photo is me sitting ON THE FLOOR with a helmet:
http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=422726 Short of cutting a hole in the floor and lowering the seat onto that (been there, done that, bought the t-shirt with a previous project and no desire to do it again) I think my Miata days are done before they started. I would suggest going to a local Mazda dealer and taking a Miata / MX5 for a test drive. A racing bucket bolted to the floor will get you some more room but my experience is that your helmet will eat that up. So IMHO if you don't fit in a stock seat without a helmet you are going to have issues. But take my comments with a grain of salt, I'm still p!ssed off that this isn't working out for me. Thomas |

yet another 6'1" 230#er. although i'm almost to lean mass again so maybe 220# now. Stock interior, stock seat and have plenty of room.

6' 3" on stock seats or Corbeau fx1 pro. its tight but you'll love the car so much it wont matter.
