Polycarbonate windshields!

• Best source for polycarb windshield for an NA Miata?
  I went to Supermiata to order one and found they stopped carrying them :sad: but if they bring those back that would be my first choice.

• Mazda Motorsports NC windshields come with a black surround which is a nice touch. Anything like that available for NAs?

• Is there a rule of thumb for thickness vs Vmax?

• Many polycarb windshields have a purple-ish hue from certain angles (like pic here). Do all polycarbonates do this? Or is this only a certain type/variant of the material?

Anit-fog is +$500, 3 layers of tear-offs +$500... but those are nice options. Has the black surround. Looks like a typo on the thinnest option (5mm isn't 13/16")
Anyone have experience with stuff from them?

 

I've used p4p stuff in the past. High quality. You get what you pay for. Took a while to get though, on an order of like 3 months if I'm remembering correctly. But now-a-days I struggle through cutting the 1/4" stuff myself if I need poly glass for anything. I wouldn't go thinner than that. I get enough deflection in the front windshield on my Volvo that I wont run any thickness of poly without at least one vertical brace down the middle. I've also never encountered a poly carbonate that doesn't have that optical distortion. Seems like its just a part of life living with plastic.

This stuff does a might fine job of making that black surround too. Especially if you're gluing it in with urethane.

 

https://www.racingshields.com/ was the source for the SuperMiata windshields, and they have an NA mold (that also works for NBs). My last invoice for one is $800ish with supercoat on both sides. Not exactly cheap, but I got it as a spare since the lead times are pretty long. No real web presence, email them and they'll get it sorted.

Fair warning, my first one is still on and usable, but scratched to hell. Wouldn't apply to time attack, but for w2w in the southwest they get absolutely blasted. I got stuck behind 2 spec Corvettes for about 10 minutes, they dropped a wheel a couple times and it did a number to the windshield. I might try skipping the coatings next time and figure out how to put tear offs on instead, just for a little bit more protection. To be fair, the average glass windshield in w2w mixed class racing (easy to get stuck behind slow fast cars) wasn't long either.

I had one of Emilio's used double coated ones in my car for 7 years and its still in the car with the new owner. Stored outdoors for 2 years in socal but indoors ever since.
I watched glass windshields be at least a one-per-year consumable in mixed class NASA PT/ST and also really loved the bolt in/out ability of the lexan.

I run the 1/8" thick in my car to save weight, it's been to 120mph without any problem.
