Default Our NC RZ roll bar

I don't believe I ever got a chance to follow up on this @ MT.net, but this might be of interest to NC owners.
Back in August when we were in the middle of ND roll bar development I posted this in the big ND thread -

Yep, including the street oriented setup which keeps the soft top.
For those who are not in the know, making an SCCA legal bar that will allow the Z fold top to to come down all the way is VERY tricky.
Very happy about that

Everyone else failed at making an SCCA legal bar for the car and we just have never tried it before, just went straight to the deep end of track oriented setup.
This may very well become a new product for the NC market as well, a soft top compatible SCCA legal roll bar
And so a couple months later we got a local customer drop off a soft top NC in the shop for prototyping and after nearly a month of dancing around the car we released our new NC RZ roll bar, which just like the ND version, allows the full usage of the soft top and is 100% SCCA legal.
Here's a link to the giant thread on m.net if you have no life and feel like reading - Blackbird Fabworx - NC RZ roll Bar - MX-5 Miata Forum

Unlike the ND version, however, it is HUGE.
The NC soft top goes much further back than the ND and allows for a rather tall hoop to be fitted underneath it.
In fact, the thing is so big that even guys over 6' tall can clear broomstick in a factory seat, it's almost 4" taller than the factory hoops!

OEM hoop structure -

Some pics of installations we've done in the shop -

So yeah, pretty cool turn of event in my book -
We designed a bar for the ND achieving something we never tried doing with the NC.
Decided to do it with the NC and see if it works, turned out better than expected.
Using some of the things we came up during the design of the NC bar, we went ahead and improved the ND bar.

Well, if I had a soft top NC I would be in... but I have no soft top and a factory hard top, so I want a GT3! This is the same guy badgering you on m.net

How do you want me to contact you to talk about the GT3 and possible seat mounts? I need them soon...

Default NASA CCR now lists Blackbird Fabworx legal roll bars for NA / NB / NC / ND

Guys, just saw that the new edition of the NASA CCR has been posted and in it NASA was kind enough to list the approved Blackbird Fabworx roll bar models (which are all the bars we make).

Click the link and scroll to 11.4.7 Roll Bars (p.41 of the PDF doc) -
https://nasa-assets.s3.amazonaws.com...282/2016.2.pdf

Just in case anyone wondered.

Yes, ALL of our roll bars are SCCA and NASA approved without exceptions.

In your NA, how far under the bar are you when you pull the seat out and just sit on the floor?

Wonderful news. I will let a few of my friends who were considering NCs know.

It has been a while since I did that, but if I remeber right, sitting on the floor with my helmet on, put me ~2-3" under the broomstick. So I know I can clear, just need to find the right seat combo that is low and fits my fat butt. :P

NCs have made a serious leap as a platform in the last ~1-1.5 years IMO.
Between finally having a roll bar that clears the soft top, is generously sized and SCCA / NASA legal, the widespread of 2.5L swaps and real world ~200 WHP, continued development of suspension mods by a number of vendors..
Combine that with the prices that are now squarely in the ballpark of track car conversions and the NC becomes far more appealing than it was a couple years ago.

I have a feeling that the many enthusiasts who used to dismiss the NC as modding platform will be taking a second look at it, and you know what, there's some sense in it, especially for the taller guys

This rollbar + the turbo kits/swaps is making me very seriously consider look for another NC, and ditch the BRZ.

You have already had an NC, so you know how fun it is. Now add tons more HP. They also can fit 17x10 with 255's on stock fenders...

In our never-ending quest for continued refinement, we now offer a set of cosmetic covers to clean up the installation of our NC RZ roll bar.
The Leatherette covers give the area a finished look and blend with the interior surfaces like they were always there. The prototype covers in the pics came out so nicely that we won't change anything between those and the production version.
The installation took less than 10 minutes and did not even require removing anything other than just unclipping the wind deflector so it's out of the way.

Before the covers -

Trimming the plastics for covers, all you need is to cut off all the vertical stubs which is done very easily -

Attach the Velcro strips (adhesive backed) front and back and fit the covers on, you're done!

Taking orders immediately, pricing is identical to the ND covers at $95 plus shipping.
Shoot me an email or give me a call, cheers!

As always - great work Moti. NC with tall bar is worth consideration for tall guys. It was always a paint trying to get lower and fit in NA/NB for tall dudes.
