Thanks Emilio.

After being faster than the STL lap records for Sonoma and Mazda Raceway on the Toyo RRs, it's time to keep the development going towards the PTE or D championship I'm going for this year.

Starting the dyno re-class 1.8 non VVT build this week. Block is at the machinists to get hogged out slightly. Time to put the small block on the shelf until the big show. Hope some folks start signing up for Watkins and Buttonwillow, we need more completion in any PT class.

If you don't mind me asking, what crank sensor and trigger wheel is that?

Those are the cam gears from Mazda Motorsports.

The 1.6 is getting a new intake cam and header. Try to boost the entire curve a little bit.

The 1.8 will start going together tomorrow. Rotating assembly is in just need to put the head on and accessories. Few tricks with that engine package doing the dyno reclass. Thank god for extra I/Os and direct motor control with my ecu! It will be fun, going to try and dyno Friday.

Ended up wiith 11:1 final c/r, had to take a little more off the head to get there.
83.5mm supertech 11:1s
manley H-beams
ACL bearings
boundary pump
JPM crank pulley
endyn CNC BP4W head
stock cams
square top
Raceland header

It is part of the JPM/BHJ race crank pulley. It's a electromotive sensor and a 58-2 wheel.

Cool! So are you going to race the 1.6 or the 1.8? I'm confused with which engine is going in. When will it get on the dyno or back out on track?!?!? Can't wait to hear how it performs.

I just finished on the dyno. It's a little soft from my dreams. Some big items that I feel can get gains, just having a hard time balancing work from play. Still hit the reclass numbers with out a problem. 141whp target with a big power band. Have a few test days planned before I go to Watkins Glen at Sonoma and Thunderhill.

Depends on how the testing goes with the 1.8, the VVT that was in the car when I got it drove me around Thunderhill very fast. This should be a littler more oomph and lighter. The 1.6 is very fast and will be strong at the Glen.

Oh many that's awesome. How did it do at Thunderhill (bypass) with the VVT? I can't wait to drive WG next year.

Do you know where a good PTE build will fall next year with the proposed new classes? I'm not there yet, but trying to get things together to have a solid car one day.

59.9 was the fastest it went on the 205/50 Toyo RRs running the bypass

I have limited seat time at WG, but I have to believe that track strongly favors peak power over low weight.

Should be interesting to see how it stacks up.

I have to agree with Andrew after watching videos and looking at the elevation profile. With PT, when in doubt go for power. Very few and specific instances where you will be faster with less power and lower weight.

Greg confirmed that ST4 is happening in 2017, but not ST5 and ST6. PTE is safe til at least 2018.

I have maps for 2195, 2295, and 2390 on the 1.8, so I can see which one fits best if that package turns out to be better. Was pretty happy with testing at Sonoma. Will try all the maps at Thunderhill as that's a more accurate high hp track to test at.

The 1.6 can run from 150whp and up so between my two choices there isn't much difference besides power band below 5000rpm, weight, and or gearing. All to take in account to choose what ever engine program is better.

I just scrolled past your exhaust pic for the 4th or 5th time and just now noticed the seat cutout in the floor. AFAIK Greg was going to hit that with a 100lb penalty, no?

There was a clarification. Modifying trans tunnel to fit a chair, no points. Cutting the actual floor and frame rail out to lower seat, is 100lbs penalty.

Cutting the floor to lower chair in any other car is illegal in PT, and has been already. This is just so that spec miatas that do the floor drop mod can still participate in PT but at a disadvantage, since nobody else is allowed to do it.

How much power now, and how'd the testing go?
