Hi!

Cascade SCC
Team Continental
various other club track days.

Getting tired of the BS about instructors for the first session every time, but it's a small price to pay for the easy pick and pay setup of HPDEs.

240_to_miata 09-27-2011 09:18 AM

Can I propose that we get a bit more detail. It would be great to know the kind of events, clubs, and location.

competitive? NO

HPDE's? Next season. SCDA, CARTCT
Location: Limerock, CT

AutoX? Yes, with CARTCT and FCSCC
Location: CT

Drifting? NO

Braineack 09-27-2011 09:19 AM

^^ this please.

I meant this to be more of a register.

SCCA Nationals in SSB (in a Civic...)
4th place finish last week at the Runoffs in SSB (gave away third place....twice)

Also do SCCA and NASA endurance races, might be doing the 25Hr at Thunderhill in a Grand AM Civic.

Also did various NASA PT and Honda Challenge races in 2011. Finished in third place in the PTB national championship race. Crashed out of the Honda Challenge 1 national championship race while fighting for podium. All of these races were in various Honda/Acura race cars.

So no, not repping mt.net, sorry.

Gryff 09-27-2011 11:09 AM

Local PDX and DE events, usually in SCCA but I am looking into running with PCA in november.

Not currently repping mt.net.
I doubt you would want an n/a car repping miataturbo anyways, lulz.

I have an MT sticker on the formula Ford, does that count?

Competitive? Doing OK in NASA TTS depending on who shows up. There is some really tough competition, cars and drivers. Doing well in TxMC unlimited. Current holder of the member board Miata lap record at Harris Hill Road. Overall I'm still getting faster, by one-second intervals.

I do not rep miataturbo.net because I hate you guys. You lured me into blowing gobs of money building a nice turbo Miata daily driver, which was in the end parted out and scattered to the winds.

They don't have a work-drive, but the events this year have been 4 25-30min sessions/day, so it gets close to the 100$/hr mark.

We should rename the forum Miataturboandtrack.net - seems like this is where the track nuts hang out

What is your alternative NASA? Personally, last time I went w/ NASA to Road Atlanta I got 4 20 minute sessions, and generally atleast 1 session per day got cut short due to one of the racers wrecking. A lot of the smaller clubs offer a more friendly environment, and lower participation numbers in exchange for more money. Its more about the experience than dollars/time.

Plus, I have to say my that both my NASA instructors have been...a bit lacking. THSCC instructors are much better. they don't mind teaching you multiple lines and letting YOU decide which one you like more. Nor do they complain about you not braking at the last turn if you were going to slow. And they certainly don't mind if you try to go a little faster in one place and it ends up being a bit hairy or you get all out of shape during it either. As long as you are learning...There is lots of little things, which I won't really get into too much, but you get the idea. Try out THSCC for one or two events and see how you like it, if you don't I would be seriously surprised.

I supposed you survived?

Efini~FC3S 09-29-2011 10:10 AM

Brake pedal went to the floor. Frantically tried to pump it up but nothing happened, accepted my fate and drove straight off because I didn't want to roll the car. Hitting gravel traps sideways = way bad.

Impact wasn't that bad. I haven't looked at the data yet but the car was slowed down pretty good by the time I hit the tire wall. Going up over the tire wall actually helped lessen the impact and damage to the car I think.

I feel a bit silly with miataturbo stickers and no turbo also. but its for a good cause!

Another plus for THSCC is that it's not uncommon to get Chuck Hawks as a classroom instructor. He also does training for F1 and NASCAR drivers and he is very good at explaining exactly why you're instructors are telling you to do certain things and drive certain ways. He's also a common instructor at Asphalt Ventures events.

PAHA & SCCA Hillclimbs - SSM class
-Weatherly & Polish Mountain last season, planning on attending all 8 races next season

SCCA Track Trials - SSM class
-BeaveRun & Summit Point last season, no idea about next season.

The car is competitive in our current SSM field (2 wins last season), but that's only because no one has bothered to show up in anything crazy (ZR1?)

Ohh, and I do some SCCA autox too, but that's just for testing/fun. I have a 370z that is much more competitive for the parking lot racing.

less than $8,000? huh? is that your yearly income, or....
i hope that's not your track budget. i do a season of nasa and various other trackdays for about half that including a set of tires and brake pads, and about 6-7 oil changes.

You know, I want to run with SCCA... I haven't done that yet, but to be honest they don't seem to do as much HPDE as other clubs and thats discouraging/disappointing. Its mostly racing or autocross, and then 1-2 HPDE/PDX (I think thats what they call it) testing sessions per year.

I will be going to the ncrscca club's VIR PDX next year if they decide to do it at VIR.

Gryff 10-02-2011 11:18 PM

^ Yeah thats kinda my problem with them two. cmp is my closest track. and I went to both the pdx events they put on this year at cmp. Really not that many. I am going to try to make it to vir next year when they do the pdx up there, the awesome thing is that they are really looking upbeat about doing the pdx at vir again. When was thscc running? I doubt I would be able to make it to the one in october... unfortunately.

THSCC Is the 15th-16th and NASA is 22nd-23rd. Try to make it out to THSCC, I can give you a $25 discount (obviously don't sign up for membership as it ends in December and to be fair, I will also get a $50 discount by referring you), which should make the price pretty damn close the NASA (which requires you sign up for membership at $45).

Either way, I am not doing it for the money, but I would be reallllly disappointed if they cancelled CMP over participation numbers.

Gryff 10-02-2011 11:39 PM

I'm going to see what i can do, but i honestly doubt ill make it

Which NASA region are you guys in? PCA is a great alternative out here, plus you get to whoop up on some fancy P-cars :) I'd recommend Trackdaze and MazdaDrivers also, but I think they're primarily East Coast (although Trackdaze has strayed as far west as Autobahn in Joliet, IL).
