Ultrashield 15" with custom memory foam

Looking at maybe the Sparco Sprint V. Good DD seat? 5'11", 200 lbs.

Looks nice, have you ever sat in one of those Exige seats...yummy.

Yes, I've got one but haven't installed it yet. In the middle of a tan-to-black interior swap. I'm looking for an Elise seat for the passenger side.

I've got the older version, the Sprint Jr, in my car. I'm about 5'10" 200lbs.
I made some low-profile/ strap style mounts out of flat stock but I think I need to mount them to the floor. I'm still too high in the car with my helmet.

My car is a summer daily/driving school car, and I don't mind the 'wiggle' to get in the car (and clear the HT) yet, but I can imagine it would be annoying during colder, coat-wearing months if it was your daily.

I think the newer version (sprint v) has better material on the bolsters-- I can imagine that would be the first spot to wear on mine because of the climbing in-and-out.

Sounds like a winner, we're about the same size.

I sat in Sav's Momo Start, and I hear the Sprint is about the same as that, so it ought to be a good fit.

Are there any GRP seats similar to the Tilletts or Mog's that aren't $$$$$?

The exchange rate is the suck since these are coming from the UK/Germany and you're paying for a fit finish which is beautiful, but not one I can afford. I'd like something which is not upholstered.

I was thinking about going with some Kirkey's or Ultrashield's but it would seem the composite seats would be far more comfortable in a street car.

A guy locally is selling a set of Starts for $500, claiming that they are BRAND NEW!!! but are bottom mount. What?

Whats the widest seat that will fit in a miata without too much issue.. I have Sparco Pro 2000 in the evo and the Speed 2s seem comparable in size but I also think the R100 will be a good choice for a mostly DD but occasional track car..

I like these .. are these fatty free though cause I am 6'0 255-265... temporarily though... stop laughing...

I am contemplating purchasing the Ultrashield Rally seats mentioned but every picture of them I see has what appears to be contoured foam padding in the bottom in the shape of leg cutouts. Is this a new design feature or false advertising or what? I don't see separate parts listed for a seat bottom pad either, so do they come as pictured or not? It says "fully contoured bottom", but Jake doesn't apparently have a fully contoured bottom.

I would have just PM'd the question but there are several different people here running them and I was hoping for a consensus.

Mine didnt have that contour. It was flat. Just give them a ring. Also look into your safety requirements. Those seats dont meet alot of standards required by some sanctioning bodies.

I think i'm going to be picking up a 17" Ultrashield rally sport for my car here next month. Can anyone comment on 10 vs 20 degree layback. I'm leaning towards 20 degress as my busted ass lower back usually likes a bit of recline. I do have some concerns about getting the 20 degree to provide forward head clearance for a roll bar (street driving situations).

I'm just planning on doing HPDEs with NASA, CHIN Motorsports, Hooked on Driving, etc. and didn't see any problems in the rules yet. I'm not planning on door to door racing (especially without a cage). Please advise if there are sanctioning bodies that I might want to run with that this wouldn't qualify if you know of any. This is certainly something I want to hear about now instead of later! :)

As for the layback question, I was assuming 10 degrees would be enough angle if I was using the stock front seat hump and bolting directly to the flat floor in the rear. It will already have some recline and you can always shim the front or back. I think the biggest thing you would get would be the angle of the bottom versus the seatback giving you more thigh support or not. I'm not thinking gangsta recline position would be the most poised and ready way to engage the track. You want the steering wheel close for good control like a real race car driver, no?

That's a good point about being able to shim the front for what you need. From my experience putting race seats into cars for HPDE's (which is very limited mind you and mostly limited to sedans) the 10 degree layback was common in sedan type cars and 20 was more for roadsters and sports coupes.

I suppose it doesn't matter though because the 10 degree really fits whatever you need it to do. either way the legs of my 6'2" frame don'ts it parallel to the floor any way so if the seat is leaned back and the under knee bolster area is kicked up a few degres it won't matter.

I'm running the Ultra Shield Rally's in mine. 16" driver, 17" passenger. (measure yourself) both in 10* leans. I'm pretty sure the 20* would have pushed my seat too far forward for my legs to fit. They are mounted to steel straps the are bolted to the factory front mount and through the floor at the rear.

I ordered mine early last year and they both have the bolster under the thigh. Had to do some bending of the drivers shoulder and head area to fit and I removed my factory rear mounts. I'm 6'2" 190 lbs with a 34" inseam. Mounting them this way gives me 2 inches of "broom stick" clearance. I still need to add seat back braces.

I drive this car on the street quite a bit also, it's surprisingly comfortable but is a bit harsh for long rides (look up the memory foam mod, I've heard it helps a ton)

Call Jack at Ultra Shield, he was great to deal with.

As a side note, I have one 5 point from them ordered with the shoulder and buckle pads, IMO they make the harness LESS comfortable, the shoulders rub the sides of my neck and the buckle pad is HUGE and kinda pointless. Save the cash.
