Would anyone with the ultrashield seats reccomend them for anything but track use?

Does anybody have a recommendation for a 6'2" guy daily driving his miata with a rollbar and hardtop? I have a OMP seat with zero lumbar and almost no padding. I weigh 200lbs and my back tenses up on my 40 minute commute each way.

I find my Racetech comfortable, but then again OMP is supposed to be a quality company. Which OMP seat is it?
At that size, you are going to be hard pressed to find something comfortable anyway. Is it your back or hip muscles? If its back, you can try to add lumbar support, I know my seat padding is held in by fishing wire. |

A lot seats look "flat" in pictures. Easier to judge i fyou took one where we could see the contour in the back...Like this:

This is as far as I can slide the seat forward before the tranny tunnel stops it.

yea its like I suspected, the seat has no built in lumbar (like you said). The issue with the OMP is its one concave up curvature from the prespective of your back, which tends to force your back into a slouching shape.
Compare that with the RT, which has the two shapes, one "straight up" to support a straight lower back and then one to support the curvature in your upper back. It simulates the lumbar you find on adjustable seats. I can't say it will work for you, but it wouldn't hurt if you went out on track and tried out other fixed back seats. I suggest the RT-1000 or the Recaro Profi. Both are pretty well known for comfort. |
Put a wedge of foam behind the seat cover. You can move it around and get it where you want it. Mine always stays where I put it without adhering it to anything. It just sits between the cover and seat back.
I got some of my scrap foam from a local upholstery shop but you can buy it at any large fabric store chain and cut it with a razor knife to the size and shape you want. |
