Short shifter...pros/cons on the track
I've read nothing but good things about the MiataRoadster shifters, especially concerning 6 speeds. I don't really see the need on my 5 speed, but the stock 6 speed shifter is trash. I did rebuild my shifter and used a bronze lower bushing, though, so YMMV.
If you want to keep stock reliability, you can always run the threads on your stick down to the taper with a die, and then just screw your **** down further. It'll get about an inch lower. I also had a coworker polish my shifter ***** for a potentially smoother shift.
God. That's the dirtiest thing I think I've ever written about cars.

The Miata Roadster tall 6 speed version stopped my money shifts. The poor stock motor went through hell the first year tracking this car. Once I changed shifters the problem pretty much went away. Still a bit tricky in the heat of battle but still a night and day difference over stock.
My 6speed is sloppy. I have the tall angled MRSS and, although I like it, I have been considering switching to the shorter shaft. I find that 5th especially can be hard to find on track. I still like it better than how it was stock.
I have bought two and both were in six speed cars. I had the short one in my MSM and the long one in my current 01. The tall one is incredibly better and if I ever have to sell my 01, I will miss the shifter the most.
Thanks for the feedback guys. It put a lot of things into perspective...since i have a 5speed i decided to buy the shifter rebuild kit from 5x racing. In addition, i got the aluminum shifter bushing. Thinking about getting a shifter extension straight or bent later on...
Overall the feeling is amazing...more precise and easier shifts!
