What is LTB? This? http://ltbautosports.com/ltbqure3howe.html Seems like a lot to pay for something with slop like that.

My china NRG knock off is similar. Have you been using it like that at the track?

My car is much more track than street at this point, so I'd be leaning toward the suede... but damn the blue looks nice. Either way, they'll have the same build quality and that's what matters.

Yes I've tracked it for years. I paid $99 years ago, so either the design has changed or they weren't making enough profit. And it's actually this one:

Subscribed. I ordered an NRG hub, 3.0 quick release and a 3" deep steering wheel. I'll keep you posted on my results as well. Should be in by Friday i hope.

FowlerMotorsports 06-26-2012 10:26 PM

Almost bought a NRG wheel today. Only thing that bothers me is how deep do i need to have to have the steering wheel close to the stock position? Nrgs' are 3" deep and 350mm, are those close to stock position?

FowlerMotorsports 06-26-2012 10:27 PM

just saw you posted yank, looking forward to your thoughts!

Tracking says it should be delivered on Friday. I'll try to install it on my white car and take some good side view reference shots with the camera in the same position before and after. I kinda want the wheel a couple inches further toward me so its not so much of a reach but to each their own.

FowlerMotorsports 06-26-2012 10:58 PM

I sit fairly close to the wheel as it is. Any closer it would be track style for me, since i plan to DD my car

dgmorr 06-28-2012 09:05 PM

I went to check out why this thing has play, and it looks like the blue lock ring is not sitting flush on the hub side. It is resting off centre on the heads of the allen screws. I think I might try to counter sink the holes for the hub side. I think it might work.

The picture depicts beveled holes for countersunk allen screws, but mine are not like that.

I just got my steering wheel adapters in the mail today. I'm not so sure about the quick release. The quick release feels solid on it's own with no play, but once everything is mounted and I try to rip the wheel off, I can feel some slop. In the normal steering plane, left to right, I feel 0 play. Definitely would use it on the street (why use a QR hub for street, no idea), but is this acceptable for the track?

Also, I have a legit Momo wheel and when trying to rip it off holding the 12 and 6 o'clock positions I see quite a bit of flex. Nowhere near as stiff as a stocker.

I don't know if I'm just expecting too much.

Ordered from the guy that NRG said to order from. they will hook you up with the nearest retailer in hopes that they have what you want in stock. i live in central KY but the guy i ordered from was in NC. 1-800-961-2124

Looks like about a 1.5 to 2" difference. Stock wheel is 5" deep and can be seen in red on the tape measure.

**edit**

Please forgive the shift knob and boot. This is my DD and i haven't had a chance to do this car up my way yet. I did however have a chance to remove the "Still Hood" and "Slammed Enuf" stickers from the windows though..

pmhaddad 06-29-2012 06:13 PM

Is the wheel flexy at all, or does it feel pretty solid? How is that v3 QR? Seems like you can still reach the stalks ok, 1-2" difference probably won't make it much more difficult.

Very solid setup. Only flex in the system is the metal in the wheel flexing. +/- 1/16 @ ~ 25 pounds force. V3 QR works very smooth. Nice solid snap when it locks in.

Reaching for the turning signal for the first time surprised me, not gonna lie. I have big hands (7.875" from tip to wrist) and its a stretch. Possible but i'm going to have to get used to.

FowlerMotorsports 06-29-2012 07:03 PM

Yank, do you feel you could taco the wheel if you wanted to?

Sweet, thanks for the quick feedback. I'll have to sit in some more cars with racing wheels and QRs and see what the feel is like. I'm pretty small (5'9" ~135lbs) so until I wire in the lights etc into a panel where the stereo currently is I need to be able to reach the stalks easily. Perhaps getting less of a deep dish wheel will help with that. I also have 5 pt harnesses, so I can't reach as far with those on.

Had a little issue.
The hub was pushing back too hard on the steering column shroud and it popped it apart. Not a huge deal but needs addressing.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1341263130

The plan is to just take off this lip that presses against the hub. Should be enough to take the pressure off the plastic.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1341263130

After the fix. This should do the trick.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1341263130

I didnt get a good pic from the front the other day. Here is one at a SW isometric.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1341263130

Final thoughts. I am loving this wheel. I never understood it before but I can see now why people get into steering wheels. Its just one more item that changes the way you drive. In my case, more aggressively. (if it wasn't already bad enough.. :) )
