Have you guys seen the low profile versions of quick release hubs?

We are starting to see listings on our version of ebay (trademe) for a quick release that is only 23mm (just under an inch) deep.

This would allow me to get a dished wheel (current PVC Raid is flat by necessity due to long arms).

But I worry about the quality....although my current china QR seems quite good.

I have one of those. It came with the steering wheel for free. I swear. I wasn't dumb enough to pay $7 for one of those. Pot metal construction. the drive pawls are little roughly 6mm x 6mm blocks, 3mm or so thick. however, the retainer that keeps the drive pawls engaged is about .5mm x 1mm around the perimeter. it is sheet metal thin. when new, it has little play. let someone else drive your car who puts a LITTLE TINY BIT of force into the steering wheel getting in and out, and it will bend a little, and now it has play. the more it bends, the less of that .5mm x 1mm lip is actually engaging to retain the drive pawls.

I have absolutely no doubt that I could grab any steering wheel mounted with that QR and physically remove it from the car without disengaging the QR mechanism. Without hurting myself. Without tools. Without breaking a sweat. In moments.

I bought a replacement which will be going on as soon as I make a 3 bolt to 6 bolt adapter.

The deep dished "authentic PVC Leather!" steering wheel seems safe enough, and reasonably stiff. Surprisingly, it is even round and hubcentric! The stupid poseur red band at TDC is actually off set a little bit, but other than that the quality for the price is decent. Oh, and the "anodizing" is not UV safe, so my black spokes now sort of look like bronze wheels do when covered in brake dust.

6'3" tall here, so I'll take as small and as offset as possible for fitment. 3" closer than stock is still a hair too far away, and I'll live with the inability to see the dash perfectly for the added clearance and better control of the 300mm wheel.


Why doesn't anyone make a small diameter wheel with a large diameter rim? I see them in photos of stock vehicles in Europe, but we get spindly little rims here, even in the aftermarket.

My NRG wheel should arrive tomorrow! I will be matching it up with my Works Bell QR/Hub so I will get some pics on the installation.

Those rims aren't actually all that big, and the spokes are in the wrong spot for where I position my hands. Personal preference and all, but those wont work for me. :(

You have a 6 bolt hub adapter/QR, and can't find a 6 bolt wheel you like for a reasonable price. But I DO have the opposite problem...

The momo team is a small wheel (280 or 320mm) with a relatively thick grip.

I'm 6'3" and the 280mm gives me tons of room. My only complaint is the steering now feels a bit quick. I'm hoping the 'slower' manual rack will correct this.

I picked mine up for 140 from a vendor at Watkins Glens. There tends to be a lot of them on the used market and unlike Nardis, they don't hold their value.

How stiff are the NRG wheels? They look nice and the price is right.

I've wanted one of those wheels for awhile.

Welp, just bought a 12 dollar ebay hub adapter, one of the ebay nrg knock offs, and a 3 bolt wheel from summit. When it all gets here I'll determine if I can just re-drill the wheel or if I need to make an adapter. total invested after shipping? $88.22. for a wheel that WILL NOT bend.

It is a 14", I will double check a little later. It feels perfect. It feels like a frisby its so light, also rock solid.

Been busy and honestly I forgot to get some photos of my install, I will post some up tomorrow but I absolutely LOVE my NRG wheel. For $119 you can't go wrong, feels like any sparco or momo I have handled.

Time for ---- phone pics! It's a suede NRG 3" steering wheel with red stitching mounted to a Works Bell QR, such a big change over the stock crap.

A buddy sold me his WB QR and hub for super cheap and they're practically brand new. If you track you will definitely love the suede wheel I have, for $119 it's a steal! Very strong and durable, like I said it feels like any sparco or momo around
