Suggestions on after market fuel rail NB 1800cc
 
After our engine bay fire we need to replace a few things (sadly the list is getting longer the further we go).

One of the items is to setup the fuel system a bit better, route fuel lines with more flex, add an aftermarket fuel reg and so on.

I see Fab9 do a "Radium" fuel rail...anyone care to vouch for this item or offer an alternative?

They’re a great company local to me. I’ve installed dozens of their products across multiple manufacturers and every product was well thought out. They’re very receptive to constructive criticism. I did bring up to them how sharp the edge was on the injector port, seemed easy to cut an o-ring if not installed carefully and I believe they were planning on implementing a minor machining change. If you go to their site you can customize your order for different sized fittings, OEM or aftermarket FPR, etc.

like all aftermarket fuel rails, or anything aftermarket really, they can’t predict if their product works with every single inktake manifold, injector, etc, so minor clearancing may be required.

I have only had two experiences with Radium.

First: I bought one of their Pulse Dampers a couple years back. Installed it and immediately the car wouldn't run. Began trouble shooting and discovered the diaphragm was torn in the damper and allowing fuel to flow into the boost reference line....into the map sensor in the ECU.

They sent me a new one and some T Shirts but I never re installed it on the car. That failure mode was something I'm not comfortable with.

Second: I purchased an aftermarket fuel pump for my E46 M3 which turns out was a re-branded Radium part. I was very pleased with the part and it's been in the car running fine for several months.

Thanks Curly, I take it you are reffering to Radium themselves and not Fab9?

I now see Fab9 also have the Skunk TB on sale so was going to go with both but (thought) I had heard horror stories about them. Given I am about as far away as you can get it makes me nervous dealing with a company with an up and down reputation.

So to clarify, I guess im now asking about the the Radium part AND Fab9.

Don't give Fab9 business. Search the forums, their customer service is garbage.


The radium fuel rail is a nice piece. I'm about to install one soon.

The owner seems nice when I met him in person. He sold me a Factory returned throttle body from skunk when I ordered a new one from him. There was only part of the original box stuck in another box with the throttle body. Can't reconcile.

Yes I was referring to Radium. I also have heard the bad stories from fab9. A few things customers have ordered were shipped out of box and poorly packaged. But if the smaller, lighter package is what saves me $20-40, I personally wouldn’t mind. So far no one I’ve known has gotten damaged products so I can’t comment on the customer service.

Just installed a Radium FPR and filter on my car. Very high quality. Had a few questions and they responded very quickly as well.

My COP kit was defective right out of the box. One of the coils would not grip the spark plug, tried to get a replacement but ended up having to find one in a motorcycle junkyard because my emails were eventually ignored. Then the COP sleeves melted anyways and they started arcing out, seems that kit is not fit for track use.

I have the Radium rail, very nice piece. I did find that I needed to order low-profile ORB block-offs to keep them from fouling on the bottom of my flat top intake manifold, the first ones I ordered were too tall.

Radium rail is very nice unit. I run one on my car. No complaints what so ever. Orb fittings are sort of annoying imo, but they are holding fine for a year now with e85. It’s also completely overkill for most Miata builds.

Fab9's "CoP Kit" was a POS. Honda CBR1000RR motorcycle coils driven by a VW igniter. I invested in the parts (from junkyards, fuck Fab9) and finally got someone on here to test the setup. Weak.


The stock coils draw 6 or 7 amps as Ben mentioned. Therefore they are producing a much hotter/stronger spark than these guys at 5 amps (ohm's law, at the same voltage, higher amp means more energy).

I still have all of that shit laying around, too, if anyone wants it. Selling the coils for $30 on ebay doesn't seem like a win, and everything else was pieced together from waaay too much reading Tycho electronics connector catalogs.

I'd second this. I bought the Fab9 kit to replace my failing OEM coil packs. I wanted something that was PnP with the stock ECU. As I hadn't gotten an MS yet. It came with a faulty coil, which Fab9 did replace without hassle, but I've also cooked two of the VW igniters. There are definitely better options out there, especially on a modified car.

Anyone using Radium's direct mount FPR? I was planning on a fuellabs 535, but I do like the idea of less adapters.

Radium rail and dual oil catch can on my MSM. The rail itself is nice. The oem rail pulse dampner adpater fittings were not machined correctly, and I couldn't use the dampner. They also failed to mention I would not be able to run the EGR if I wanted, which I fucking wanted the option come smog time. I tried to resolve the issue but they were very slow to respond, and really not handling it well. Asking for me to measure and waste more of my time.Rather than just sending me parts that fuckin work. The fittings were not allowing the dampner to be fully clamped which allowed the dampner to spin in the fitting(0rb adapter) which then screws into the rail. The OEM fuel line SAE adapters were also completely wrong and unusable due to the routing. I inteded to run the OEM single feed for a while but was forced to spend the coin on dual feed lines earlier than I wanted. The vics diaphgram or whatever under the IM was right in the path of the fittings. They simply did not try this set up on all IM's and that caused me to shell oput more money for more fittings and have fittings sitting around I can't use. I had to buy new fittings for the dual feed ends. The rail body is about .8mm away from the cam cover and I thought that's a bit close. Over all it looks nice but I would recommend the FM rail with lines for a better deal and no hassle.

More fundamentally, will the Radium rail buy you anything over simply replacing the stock with stock? I think you are looking for more reliability.

Re: FPR, are you looking for adjustable? If so, again why?
I have seen your factory FPR failure recently, but also a failure of an aftermarket one. Was an Aeromotive

I want an adjustable so I can run a DW300 in prep for future injectors and bewst without having to change fuel pumps twice. Also because I don't want to order a 20 year old OEM FPR from the UK or Japan for a bolt in fitment on my nb head swap.

Not looking for adjustability. I do get what your saying and it is something I have started to ponder myself anyway.

I haven't ordered it yet, still thinking. Our FPR cracked where the AN adaptor olive was attached. likely due to the added weight and stress of a too short / stiff braided line.

We are thinking of welding an AN fitting to the end of the OEM fuel rail and chopping off the long length of metal pipe similar to what failed on the OEM FPR.

Engine builder is thinking that, im thinking after market fuel rail or just using a more flexible, longer hose and leave the fuel rail alone......

I have bought a Tomei FPR and a AN blanking fitting for the fuel rail for now.
