I currently use the baby teeth for strapping the car down on the trailer. It seems that most likely those would be blocked when adding an air dam. So, what is the best alternative? Putting e-track on the trailer and going over the tires?

Our air dam dzuses off. Three 1/4 turns and its off, with access to the die downs

I should have mentioned that I (currently) have an open trailer. Keeping the bumper fully attached would be a massive plus as I don't really have a place to store the air dam otherwise.

For our ZL1, we have the same issue... no where up front to tie down. I use the over-the-tire straps with E-track and have been very happy with it. It's a little tight getting in there with our enclosed trailer, but shouldn't be a problem with an open trailer, or with a Miata, for that matter.

Axle strap through the wheel, hooking around one spoke, then off to a D ring that's located to the outboard of the car. The straps angle out around the splitter.

Roda, thanks. I think I like that solution. Do you put anything between the e-track and the tire?

No, the tire just rides on top of the e-track.

I use axle straps thru the wheels or through the lower control arm depending on my mood.

I have an open wood deck trailer. I use a backing plate and carriage bolts with a D-ring idler from Mac's up front. I attached to dedicated anchor points welded to the frame.

We loop through the spokes on the face of the wheel, back out through the face. Hooks in front of car but outboard on track width. Strap sometimes pushes against plastic air dam but doesn't hurt anything.
If you do it this way, make sure straps are inline with hub and hook in floor. Otherwise wheel might rotate as car bounces in transit and lose tension.

Thanks all - for those that strap to the wheels, are you worried about it pulling on the alignment, etc? I know the car sees way more forces than that actually driving, but am curious if anyone's had issues with it.

Nope. I've been using the wheels to strap cars down as long as I've had a trailer (10 years) and it's never caused an alignment issue.

So, I ended up buying an enclosed trailer this weekend.




I think I'm going to go the e-track route like Roda did.

Nice trailer!

I use to do this but ended up at Pukekohe once with EVIL handling. Turns out my strap through wheel and drive to the track had moved the wheel alignment badly.

Worn alignment bolts as well probably.

Since then we use the wheel straps sold by Futura Trailers. They are like mentioned above but dont use the track, just to holes in the side of the trailer.
