Its a shame because he's somewhat knowledgeable but obviously such a socially inept virgin that no one can stomach it.

completely acceptable responses. I understand your need to retort with conviction. I am a newbie to these forums. Apparently you all are on the same boat and i dont quite understand the logic. Insult me, my intelligence..hell, go ahead and insult my ability to race or even my team for that matter. But i assure you my input is not wrong nor is it rookie. it is simply words you and your followers choose not to listen to. and its fine. take the same path i did. learn the same ways i did. Clearly here no one reading my posts does full season competition racing every with the miata. and if they do, maybe they are the ones who understand.

ban me if you will. i hope it gives you a warm visceral feeling.

It did. It really did.

I really wanted to see what all he had tried to achieve reliability. I am honestly betting it is nothing close to what we have figured out in the past 3 years of what needs to be done.

This guy is yet another reason why I HATE HATE HATE 99% of SM and the people who race in it.

Oh. Oops. Get a internet petition to bring him back, I hear those work well.

I found found that most SM drivers only know SM. Anything that is not how you do it in SM is wrong.

The White House website has a thing for petitions online. I am totally starting one to get him back. Obama will come through for me.

I was really waiting for the FS thread to ban him. I saw his posts jump up fast this morning.

I'm more of an American Iron guy myself. The kind of takes your girlfriend, kicks your ass, and drinks all your beer.

A friend and I were discussing this exact topic. SM guys are really snobby and I have yet to meet an exception to this rule.

well. im not going to read all these increasingly off topic posts im just going to give a bit of input from experience.
My self and teamates have been racing NASA MA&SE for about 6 years now. We have been through every possible performance part, engine mod, diff mod, brakes..etc. The one thing we did that blew tons of money and didnt pay off was turbocharging our race car. sure it was fast. Incredibly unreliable though. a real miata road racer relies on momentum. if you know what i mean, the simple fact of how boost affects drivability when giving throttle strips you of the ability to maintain momentum when half throttling through the apex. the design of a turbo will not allow it. not too mention the other facts: fuel system needs to be addressed as well as cooling. parts have melted, paint has curled and worst of all, because of the nature of WOT racing, a miata motor, fully built or not.. can not withstand the abuse for more than approx 4 races depending on your driving style.
Turbocharging is for a "bad ass" street show off car. or for an undisciplined drifter.
Learn to drive the car, and you wont need a turbo
.

last part is the reason that got you all those unpleasant response.
may be you will share what issue you have, what mods you've done. it will help the community as well..

There are a few out there that ruin it for everyone and only pocketbook racers. I know several people, at least in my region, that built the cars themselves and will do anything to help anyone at the track out.

Now I need to go back to looking in the mirror, while eating caviar, and laughing at all those who do not know the glory of SM and it's righteousness.

The SM guys I know around here are not snobby at all IMO. One of them lets us use his garage at Summit Point from time to time and is always offering to help if you have mechanical issues. I had another one for an instructor and he was cool. And yet another (former) SM driver has done my last couple of alignments- he's great to chat with on chassis setup and his knowledge is not confined to what SM forces him to run. Maybe some are snobby, but definitely not all.

I'm guessing that his attempts at reliability failed to include V-bands and/or Inconel. The folks at track events around here who eagerly tell you that turbo Miatas aren't reliable all formed their opinions 3+ years ago when nobody was running this stuff.

A more realistic account from NASA is that after SM races, they argue, cry, and protest; AI races conclude with beers.

The SFR SCCA SM crew was pretty skeptical of the black car, until Nick brought it to a double regional, qualified 9+ seconds under SM pole, and kicked some ass in ITE. Before the event, we got questions about why things were done differently - after the event, we got questions about why the different things were better ;)

pwned. With that said, I haven't talked to a lot of SM drivers, but the ones I have talked with were pretty nice.

I tell everybody it is because I run FIA approved zip ties.

I, for one, would just love to hear what illeniummx5 and his team have done for their turbo car, what failed and how often.

My guess is we'll spot a few key mistakes that most miata turbo newbs miss. that led to the failures. Maybe find a few clever work arounds that no one here has seen. Trade some info, both parties learn. That is the way of mt.net

But instead the guy has just to come right and call us all turds. Why for?

curly 12-14-2011 12:48 AM

I mean to come and give us some insight and ask why things went wrong for him is one thing, but to come in to a MIATA TURBO site and say turbos suck, are only for street queens, and CANNOT be reliable on track is way too douchey for me to keep around. Thanks, but no thanks.
