I know they are a little expensive, But I was looking at a Aerocharger because they are made so if you want to go to the track and don't want any lag or if you are driving out to the track and don't want to be in boost all the time. All has to be done is to change a screw setting. Has anyone had experience with these turbochargers.

Because for some reason people were under the impression it made full boost by 500RPM, which is never the case for another run of the mill centrifugal supercharger?
There's a reason the VF engineering kit failed. Acutally, from teh dynos I've seen of the aerodyne turbos, they impress me little as well. Just size the turbo correctly and you compromise little. here's one running low boost: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1319814605 I think this was 5-6psi on a 1.6L Compared to my $150 on wastegate attached to a very similar manifold: http://www.boostedmiata.com/gallery2...rain_10psi.jpg red dashed lines. |
You never get off idle boost with a centri
I mean you get all the downsides of a sc with all the (supposedly) downsides of a turbo no torque and not much topend. only thing going for them is the ease of installation and relatively trouble free operation/dependability |

This is a friend of mine with a Nissan KA24DET and he's racing in NASA, which he has to stay under a certain power to weight ratio. So his boost on his GT2871R goes low rpm 12.5 psi to high rpm 6 psi, so his hp is as much as a flat line as possible. (thats one good thing about turbos)

well, its safe to say it would be hard to stay in the that rotrex's power range on a 5-speed. I could see it being useful on a 6-speed though...with a 4.1 or something.

FWIW at Pacific Raceway I've hit 7100 rpm in 6th with a 3.636. Bob |

Using an AVCR boost controller on a turbo you could have your class HP available over the entire working RPM (redline to after shift rpm) of the motor. That's not going to happen with a SC. Average HP in the operating range is more important than peak HP. |
^ yea thats true also! I was not taking the power handling into consideration.
As a NA miata, the fastest I have ever gone is 115mph on the back/front straight of VIR. thats probably 5.5k-6k in 5th gear with a 4.3 rear end. So any one of these options would a great addition! |

Very cool. Do you know what he is using for a boost controller?

That's Rob Symonds 240sx. He's a garrett turbo engineer. Cool guy.
He's running a high hp n/a motor now. |
Turbo charger being powered by a turbojet.
