Default what size and type of intercooler do you run?

I'm thinking about upgrading my FM intercooler to something larger. I was looking at a cx racing one on ebay that is really inexpensive. I had one on another car it it seemed to do a pretty good job.

I see trackspeed has a unit that I'm sure is very nice. i'm just not sure I can send them any more money for right now.

so I either hold off or give one of the ebay units a try.

The ebay units are not as efficient and consistent. But they get the job done. If your FM isn't completely tiny and restrictive, I'd probably not even bother.

That said it depends on what you want:
tube/fin is ligher and provides better heat exchange at lower speeds
bar/plate is stronger and usually flows more and better at high speeds

We already discussed this at length iirc, search around.

BEGi intercooler. If I were doing this all over again, I'd change nothing, including the BEGi #3 FMIC. I had a cheap intercooler once where all the fins folded over from bugs and it didn't cool so well.

I have a precision 600hp intercooler. I could bludgeon people to death with it. I'm not a huge fan of it since it was kind of a pain to mount.

Before, I used to have some le hueg china intercooler. It had threaded holes on top and bottom, making it super-easy to mount with some aluminium brackets.

Both one did the job done. Frankly unless your IAT are super high I would spend money on other things.

I have ran a begi size 1 and now run a begi size 3. They mount easily and hold up extremely well. The only other intercooler I would get would be a precision.

Godspeed "Type M" picked up from another member here on MT

Core is 20"x6"x2.5", 28" overall width, 2.5" in/out, bar and plate. Its got some mass to it and it looks quite well made. It should fit like a champ after I rip my AC out

From all the reading that I've done, its not that you need some sort of massive intercooler to get the job done, is more about airflow management than anything else. Sealing up the nose and routing the air where you want it to go, rather than where it wants to go, yields glorious results.

Now is the time to do it, plenty of free coroplast out there now that the primaries are over

What Flyin Miata intercooler do you have? The old BEGi ones with the end tanks top and bottom are pretty nice. I had a friend switch to a bigger high performance Garrett core and ended up loosing power. He went back to the old Flyin Miata core.
