Default New to the Miata - and she's turbo

Just picked up a 95' turbo that was owned by a 45 y/o man and then by some kid, who was a little liberal about the condition of the car. I inspected it and it ran well, but since the purchase it's been on stands and awaiting some minor bodywork and a mess of new parts including wheels, toyo proxies, frog frame rails, sway arm and chassis bracing, end links, momo steering wheel, kg spoiler, sideskirts, and rear canards, amongst some other things.

It has a looming parasitic draw somewhere, which the owner lied about and I ended up taking his word on. He said it was the deck, and it's a rat's nest in there, but I disconnected it and it's still pulling 1 amp when parked. I'm done being upset and just looking at this as a project. It has a lot of nice parts and tuned on an AEM EMS, so a lot of the hardwork is done.

I've really enjoyed the forum environment with the miata crowd so far and it's a hell of a lot different than the subaru and honda crews I'm used to.

Looks like you bought a nice collection of parts and now it's time to re-do the build. Car looks really good though.

Which turbo is that? Looks huge.

It's a garret gt2860rs "disco potato", and you're correct it is huge. I thought it would be really laggy, but it's not. It starts making decent torque at 2k and pulls well all the way to the red. it's at 10 lbs now, but was tuned at 14 psi making 238 whp. I plan on using it for autox and cruising with the guys. I've never owned a rwd car before ( High hp subarus in the past) but I'm having a blast with this already and it's only going to get better.

Pictures are tiny and painful to see. But welcome and good luck with the project.

Its not trolling. We are just a bunch of passionate DIYers and forum junkies for the most part and we appreciate users that read the rules first. miata.net caters for the ignorant. Miatatturbo.net hazes the ignorant.

We used to be known for figuratively sodomizing the ignorant if they came across too haughty, but that is much more rare these days. The self-entitled teenagers who come on here are the worst. Like a bratty child, they expect us to let them suckle our teats and to wipe their asses while they only contribute excrement in return.

Welcome Mr. Chow! What are your plans for the car. Is it running well enough that you will just maintain it as is. Any upgrades or issues you plan to tackle from the get go?

I've got a mess of new parts including wheels, toyo proxies, frog frame rails, sway arm end links and chassis bracing, momo wood and leather steering wheel, kg spoiler, sideskirts, and rear canards, cf mirror caps, wood e-brake handle, and a custom made front splitter which I might start selling.

The car runs decently now, but it needs a new valve cover and CAS o-ring, and I need to track down short which is drawing about 1 amp at all times. I haven't dove into that yet, but the previous owner said it was the cd player, however it wasn't.
He had a quick disconnect on the battery, but of course I'm not going to disconnect the battery every time I park it, so that will be addressed first. The turbo install is clean and the tune is decent enough, but it's a lot of little ****. Paid $5400 ultimately, which may have been a little too much, but for what I've seen around it wasn't a bad price.

I do metal art in my spare time with a CNC plasma table.

5400 is more than fair. Take the ECU and the quality of the turbo and it has a hardtop. I'd say you somewhat stole it from him.

Also you may want to just add a kill switch in the trunk. That way when you park it you can toss the removable steering wheel in the trunk and flip the switch to ki the battery.

Also remove the trunk switch in the center console. This make for a mediocre theft deturant.

Yeha, I'd say $5400 was a really decent deal, especially compared to what is usually found around my area. Good find.

thanks for making me feel a little better about it. There are a few small rust bubbles on both rockers (or rather in front of the rear tires), but I'm planning on taking care of that before it hits the road full time. It will be my first attempt at bodywork, but I'm looking forward to it. The rear quarters are absolutely pristine and that was mainly what I was concerned with living in the salt belt. Miatas in this shape are hard to come by around this area...much less with a clean turbo install.

Also what's this "total props" thing? I listed a somewhat ghetto turbo setup that I was selling for a friend and that probably generated some of it, but the joke is on them because I got my asking price. :P
