My 2001 Italian Stallion money pit build

haha not yet. ECU is almost finished, installing that and praying it works is the first step.
Also Inertia Labs is still deciding if the XIDA shock that seized 4 months into ownership is warrantiable... who knows how long that will take.
Still waiting on the bracketry, intake, and rotrex oil cooler from Trackdog.
I gotta be patient! I might have to just wait to install the rotrex when I get back to caaali, not sure how long all this stuff will take.

This sounds like fun. I might be willing to drive to Sac and donate a few hours labor one day.
Also on the subject of cryo treatment of parts. I have been given access to an entire shelf of a -80 freezer for part experiments. There is regular delivery of LN2 there as well if I get my own dewar.
Should I be treating all my steel parts before I build my motor? Maybe disassemble my spare 5 speed and treat everything in there too.

Yeah, I figured as much, I will fit right in. If Vlad doesn't mind, I don't want to **** off his neighborhood with too many obnoxious Miatas at one time.
I have a thought to use the racks in a dewar to build a shelf, so I could go maybe a week in the -80. A week of the vapor phase in the dewar on the upper shelf. Then finally a week submerged in LN2 on the lower shelf. Maybe pull stuff out the same way. I think the older style dewars can be picked up relatively cheap and they have a bigger opening.

the top hat photo shows wear caused by a manufacturing defect in the xidas. A ring of metal was just hanging out there. I bought the pre-assembled xidas.
second photo shows the innards of the tractive shock (xida)
Xida shocks are supposed to seize at the very top 1/4 of travel, due to the little hole passing through the bushing. This is interesting, but doesn't effect the performance of the shocks, other than if you go airborn, and you probably won't notice anything.
So does this mean XIDAs are meant to make a **** ton of noise? I swear to the car gods, if these still make insane clunking noises, I'm buying custom shocks. Penske or some ****. I don't care.

^haha thanks for the vote of confidence!
But yeah, in the likely event that I will get Alex from T&A Motorsports (he makes penske shocks for the ford gt, and mustang racing teams, he was a local guy to me when I lived in Michigan) to make some Penskes for me...
you are first in line, just a fyi, the xidas have 800/500 springs.
Oh snap, I just had an idea.... maybe Emilio and Alex can do a little collab... make some small batch high end shocks for the miata.... OH BAYBEEE

^I'm glad you keep me in line!
Good times indeed! Many more to come, I'm sure!
Update!!!!!! the track dog intake, supercharger bracket, hardware, and upgraded rotrex oil cooler kit has arrived!!!! I am very impressed at the thoroughness and quality of TDR. All the hardware is in little baggies, and all items were packed well. An EXTREMELY DETAILED instruction manual was also included (like 100 tabbed pages) with a flash drive containing the PDF version. Wow.
At first I was upset, as I took the oil cooler out, because it had very minimal padding/packing, but then I realised the aluminum mounting bracket doubled as a packaging shield, very cool.
I'll be uploading a picture tonight.
Honestly, I will be very surprised if ANY company out there can beat the quality of the TDR Rotrex kit, at least pre-installation. I will obviously be vocal and honest about the installation, and throughout the months following.

If anyone is interested in the pricing of rebuilding tractive style shocks (XIDAs) at Inertia Labs Texas, here's a rundown... as of June 2016
Rebuild Service for Tractive Shock--- 150.00 per shock
Cleaning service of Strut/Shock--- 15.00 per shock
Top Mount/Spring Removal and Reassembly---10.00 per shock
Inspection of strut/shock to evaluate condition of oil, seals, shims, etc.---75.00 per shock
XIDA Rebound Adjuster **** (orange)---20.00 per ****
The rebuild, inspection, and return shipping was covered under XIDA warranty. Not sure who covers that, I'm guessing 949racing reimburses Inertia Labs...
I pay for the Labor for installing the springs and mounts, and the two ***** that were lost in transit.
