Looks like we found that a 95 MAF plug is a "Yazaki 2.3II(090II) Connectors Sealed 5 Position Female Housing [Black]
Part.Nr. 7283-1056-30"
So did some google fu and I THINK this guy https://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/pr...oducts_id/4326 is a winner as a solution. Can anybody who is more skilled in the art of plugs and shizzle confirm that this bad boy may well work to splice in with my IAT sensor?
It looks sooooo close but not quite right. Here's a photo of my '95 MAF housing. Looks like the pins are located differently with reference to the two keys. Not sure it would work, although maybe there is enough play in the pins.
I ended up inserting a 6 way Deutsch plug to make the MAF connector a sub harness. I'll replace it with a new sub harness that connects to the IAT sensor. Also allows for an easy return to stock if required. Like you, I wasn't keen on the stick in, bend and tape method.
I got impatient earlier today and ordered one of those plugs before I saw this reply, along with some crimps and other connectors for WBO2 connection from Ballenger. I will try it on the MAF plug when it shows up and if it doesn't work I can try fiddling/dremeling with it or do what you did and make a subharness and write off the 7 or so bucks
The OEM connetor to the MAF is a "wire-to-device" connector- which implies that there always is a physical device connected, no other connetor (male/female) - so there is no mating part for that...
I could run wiring to the MS, but is a PNP and there is already a harness running to it. Didnt't really want to overcomplicate things and to retain the ability to return back to stock ecu if I move somewhere requiring emissions testing which could well be on the cards.
You have an open port for an optional connector on the other side. The connector came with the unit for you to build more direct accessories to be wired in. No splicing of OEM harness will be required.
mates up. My IAT is mounted in the crossover pipe near driver's headlight so is a short harness. If this thing ever goes turbo I'll just make a longer one, and for ebc will just add to the pins.
No running of wires from behind the car to behind the seat, no cutting of loom.
When I was looking to extend the MAF cable in my car I found this extension on ebay. Says it's for a Toyota but it worked fine in the Miata. When I put the MS in I just took out the extra wires and soldered the ends to the IAT sensor. I can always put it all back together if needed with a little soldering. https://www.ebay.com/itm/322290893905?rmvSB=true

That's the same as what I did with my NB IAT
Except I used **** connectors rather than fancy OEM looking ones (no way in hell I could work out how to crimp the IAT plug things without them just snapping off)
