Back story- Had to relocate MAF a few months ago, cut and soldered wires cleanly with good joints.. Back pinned each connection and tested wires from connector past the first solder joint. All is good.


Car started running REALLY poorly about a week ago and had no power. Feels like it's loading up under 1800rpms, but still feels down on power once you get past 1800. I got stuck in the middle of an intersection because the car would not budge... light throttle, heavy throttle, then it decided to run okay again for a bit. Parked it started swapping sensors with a buddy to no avail. Wideband shows stoich on idle(still feels like it's loading up). Now the car won't start with the MAF plugged in and I'm getting p102 and p103....Retested wires(from pin(s) on MAF connector past the solder joints, twice.. still good! Swapped with a known good MAF, no change. Tested TPS and it showed within spec. It's not missing and I just changed plugs, wires and coilpacks a month ago.

Lost...

Any ideas?

cutting/soldering maf wiring is a terrible idea on most cars. its usually shielded wire of some weird variety that can get really noisy if not done correctly.

that's all I can think of on this subject. most of us never hack up our maf wiring.

Black electrical tape or heatshrink tube? Silver solder? Did you cut all the wires in a row or did you offset them so the exposed sections could not contact eachother? I would check your joints, sounds like something is touching.

Also, do I want to know why you relocated your MAF?

Silver solder, offset with double heatshrink tubing on each wire then heatshrinked with an oversized(not tightly) heatshrink tube to form a bundle.

Swap your ECU? It can't hurt to try it if you think you've tested/verified everything else in the circuit.
