Default Metro Detroit peeps.

I've been noticing more and more metro Detroiters registering here on mt.net. I'm thinking of starting a local miata turbo club with some weekend meets, it's always nice to have someone local for advice/help with your project.

If you're from the area, say hello!

Checking in from Troy. I'd be down for a meetup in perhaps a week or two.

I will be happy to host a few GTG's at our place in Clawson. We may mix it up with some other turbo cars from my other lives if it's cool. All EFI, hi-tech stuff.

I cruise telegraph road on the weekends after like 9pm. If you stay south of I96 there are usually more than a few muscle cars and tuners that will race.

Thinking about putting together a Detroit meet and greet at our Technical Training Studio, what's a good night after work to do this? We are in Clawson, near Troy.

Default Noobie here in Macomb MI

I am looking for a reputable shop to install a Flyin' Miata turbo on my 2000 5-sp Miata. I would do it myself but am going through chemotherapy at this time. When I feel better, I would love to cruise and would love to join a club. Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

He said you emailed him. He's probably one of the best guys to do a turbo installation around. He doesn't have a dyno for tuning but I know a guys who has a sweet place in Milford for that if you need tuning.

Weekend evenings are good for me. I work 50+hrs a week and have 2 kids with another on the way in a few weeks, so my free time is few and far between.

Superdve, I'd love to come check out your shop. Maybe that would be an ideal place set up a bi-monthly or monthly meet?

I will tell you that I'd much rather be driving my car than staring at it so maybe we can schedule some meet and drives, there are a ton of good local roads west of metro D. Maybe we can even do a milan dragway or a trackday out at grattan a couple times a year?

I understand. Everybody's free time is short it seems like. We work harder for less in Detroit just to get by! We have martial arts, piano, film projects, housework...all of it!

I say we shoot for some after work meetups in Clawson where we bring some car people together to go over some possibilities to swap tech, needs and abilities. I'm lucky to have some pretty talented people in my circle who love cars and work for some cool companies. The premise should be to clone some fast recipes and have fun with the cars and not stare at them I agree.

I have access to chassis dynos, calibration tools, (widebands, oscilloscopes software), a few parts and pieces, and a place to meet up if we have the right crowd and don't abuse my privileges. The 1st thing I'd like to do is check and datalog few cars with some hi tech equipment while we BS.

Let's try and setup some dates within the next two weeks. So toss out days of the week that we are available. I have Mondays, Fridays and some Tuesdays right now until June.

Dave

I don't have the benefit of comparison but both companies have nice looking kits. The FM kits seems to have good instructions and good tech support. I would probably buy a Voodoo II intercooled kit with possibly the hard line option and be happy with it at 8-10 psi of boost. Intercooling is a must for any serious, (that means any turbo build), turbo system if you want the engine to live as it helps to keep the charge air temps down thereby keeping detonation in check.

Personally I cannot think of a better power adder for the money except N20 and most people wont consider that as it's not always there. Supercharging is OK but superchargers place more parasitic load on the engine to produce a given power and they are more rigid in terms of increasing or adjusting power output if you want more later on.

I suggest given your current circumstances that you select a complete kit with a track record from a reputable company and have it installed professionally. I would probably call both vendors and see who seems more responsive, and ask some folks on this board as well.
