mechanical question: I'm trying to piece my turbo together but I ran into this.. The turbo has four double-sided automotive studs. I can't figure out a way to bolt it on to my manifold. My manifold is a t3 so I had to use an adapter but the holes on the adapter is threaded..

I've thought about drilling the holes to make them clear but the adapter doesnt allow enough space since the bolts that attach to the adapter to the manifold is in the way.

I would drill out the turbo threads and thread the studs that are in the turbo into the manifold.

 

ya i've tried using vise grips to remove the studs from the turbo with some freeze off but it was a no go.. ended up stripping a part of the stud. how would you drill out the turbo with the studs still attached?

 

you should be using a double nut setup to remove the studs, heat up the base of the turbo after the jam nuts are on, have your turbo held down and then get on the bottom nut with an open end wrench and remove

 

If the double nut setup doesn't work, another thing you can do is weld on a nut (if you're unable to thread 2 nuts onto the stripped stud). Weld it on real good. Now you should be able to remove the stripped stud (make sure you spray freeze off/wd-40) where it's threaded onto the turbo.

This worked for me on a T25.

You can use a wire welder from Harbor Freight (cost <$100) and has millions of uses.
