Default Race suit base layers

What are people wearing as base layers under suits? I need some for Lemons in a couple weeks and want something that will be comfortable for a while in car. I'm not necessarily looking for the budget version.

If you're running a cool suit or driving in cool weather, then CarbonX is the way to go. If you're not, it's a tossup. I think in order of comfort, it goes cheap nomex < CarbonX < best nomex, but the gap has closed between the last two. I prefer Simpson over Oakley for CarbonX undies. I've seen a lot of the Oakley stuff unravel. Also, the CarbonX gets less disgusting between races than the nomex. It doesn't breathe as well, but does wick away moisture and is at least if not more comfortable against the skin than good nomex. I don't use a CarbonX head sock, but I've had a few people tell me they roast in it, probably because there's no airflow/no way to wick away moisture when it's all surrounded by padding.

I like basic nomex for underwear, but really like the Oakley balaclava; I found the flat stitching on the Oakley was a lot more comfortable than the other ones I'v used, as they had a slightly raised welt, that the helmet smushed into me. It also works inside out just as well. For me. this is in a formula car, no cool-suit (I wish there was room!).

Bit of follow up so the thread doesn’t become one more question with no final results. I had an existing OMP balaclava that was perfectly acceptable. This was joined by Sparco Pro Tech RW-7 tights and long sleeve shirt, and Simpson compression socks. Worn constantly for two days they were extremely comfortable in the car and reasonably cool on a warm California day. The only time they became uncomfortable was when the race was red flagged and there was no airflow. I’ll bug a second pair of socks before the next two day event.

There are probably many fine sets of gear. I’m happy recommending this set. I’d have liked Carbonx stuff, but the market seems to have thinned out a lot, and I wasn’t excited with anything still sold.

Hat tip to OG for good deals and selection

100% cotton or nomex is what is required in the fore service so would wear similar under race suit.
