Default Crank and exhaust gear 1 tooth out engine runs

Bought this motor couple of years ago saw running in car it come from etc
Built bp 1.8 motor stock cams.
adjustable cam gears
Turbo charged

Have had this motor running in my car runs good tho now i decided to do timing belt on it and noticed exhaust cam is 1 tooth out. With adjustable cam gears i dont know why u wouldn't just move the adjustable cam gear.
Also noticed the crank pulley is one tooth out?

Have googled and some people say can get top end gains from moving exhaust cam one tooth ?
But the crank pulley out one tooth? Anyone seen this before or any reason why it would be?

Either something happened and caused the timing belt to jump a tooth, or it was installed incorrectly originally.

Incorrect installation is entirely too common. The engine will usually run but will be down quite a few horsepower.

just an FYI when you fix the belt, check the thread below. Don’t blindly trust that the cam gear’s 0 is actually 0 - or even the triggers, if the toothing is “right”. Might want an OEM cam gear just to figure out your baseline.

I was disappointed to see FM making that list, but maybe they know something I don’t.

Thanks for the info. I have the fidanza cam gears and will compare them to the stock set of cam gears i also have.
The crank pulley now looks to be very close to tdc by the old screw driver down no 1 spark plug hole and the marks on the factory balancer and the crank pulley to oil pump mark also.
