Good evening, I am rebuilding my na 1.6 turbo and I was wondering if it is possible to modify the oil pump system to avoid failures, I have looked for information and I know that the problem that leads to failure has to do with the valve, but I do not find any video or post that explains exactly how to prevent it

 

Yes, throw it away along with the B6 and build a 1.8 with billet pump gears

 

​​​​​I have reasons to use a b6, logically a BP is better but my engine has only 50,000 miles, it has a b660 cylinder head and it has been well cared for so I risk buying an engine that I do not know its condition, here in Spain they are scarce ,they are expensive and most come from the UK apart from that the b6 turbo also work well

 

Fair enough: at least you have a decent reason. The issue with broken oil pumps usually has everything to do with the fact that they are cast, brittle, and the B6 and BP vibrate harder than a vibrator. So really, billet gears and possibly a proper crank damper is the solution. I have yet to see tons of issues stemming from the valve.

 

A proper crank damper is the key to keeping a stock pump happy.

 

And would replacing the gear with a boundary gear and keeping the stock damper be a solution as well? or better to put an ati? (I'm running 14 psi and I know the stock will hold but I want to be "calm" regarding oil pressure

 

The boundary gears were created over a decade ago to be the cheaper choice then the ATI damper. Both strive to solve the same problem. Start with the gears, and add the ATI later if you feel you really need it, which I doubt you will.

 

It's also much easier to install an oil pump/oil pump gears now, with the pan off, compared to later on down the line. A damper is a much faster and easier thing to add later on down the line if you feel you need it.
