Default bov question

ok, so some guys i know were running their mouths to me about how not running a bov on the basic greddy kit is dangerous.
i know this is kind of a noob question, but is there any truth to this? i havent read or heard anything like this from people who actually drive turbo miatas so far.

I would get a bov on there as soon as possible. Compressor surge can be a real bitch on a turbo's bearings.

compressor surge at low psi is over rated. You can get away with not using a bov at low boost and it wont affect the turbo's longevity in the slighest. Its the turkey gobble sound that irritates most enough to go get a BOV.

You can pickup used bovs for $15 - why not? I've got a bosch unit right here that'll go for that and it's got less than 1k on it.

you can get away with not running one, under a certain boost level....but why would you want to push it.

when the butterfly valve closes, the built up boodt pessure has to go somewhere....where can it go? back into the turbo and out of the filter.

When you start you actually hear surge, what are are hearing is the blades of the turbo chopping up the airflow back through it and pushing it back to the closed throttle body. It's bad for the turbo...how bad is it worth it? I wouldn't want to take the gamble.

well, i do have an hks recirculating bov sitting in my garage. i may as well throw it on.
the only reason i havent is because i have this intercooler kit that sucks *****, which the bov flange is welded to, so that means i'm going to have to go out and get couplers and **** like that. but i guess thats the way she goes!
