99 miata with bp4w running kraken gt2560r.

Im installing an MSpnp2 and AEM X-Series Trueboostx gauge kit. I have not really found any good instructions on wiring this into the MS. Not being familiar with CAN bus I am thinking of just installing the boost controller and connecting it to the MS options port on port 7. Then running the gauge as just a regular boost gauge without the boost control solenoid connected to it. Is there any benefit to running it via CAN and if anyone has posted which I have not found via the search function please link the instructions?
