I've been using Shadow Dash on my tablet to log info and as a heads up display while on track. I have it configured to show IAT, Boost, Coolant Temp, Speed, and RPM.
I took this screenshot just a few minutes ago...
The software is old, even though it auto updates, and no longer works with the current version of Android. I have resorted back to an ancient tablet running Android 4.6.
What are my other options for a data logger and cheap display?
You could get an Aim MXM, they’re around $1300, log anything sent on MS’s CAN protocal, plus up to 4 additional sensors, GPS channels, lap times, etc. has shift lights too. Small enough to mount in front of your cluster or on the center console.
I’ve had incredibly bad luck with android tablets lasting on track cars. Batteries die, Bluetooth connection issues, rotation issues while cornering, brightness issues, etc.
I am currently installing one of these powertune digital dashes in the RGM, purely for supplementary instrumentation, located in the centre console in place of the radio setup. Stock dash retained. Downside is that you have to program them yourself, they come with basic displays, but there are people who for a fee will set it up for you. Runs off CAN, no bluetooth, no serial, maybe obd2 not sure. That one is AUD$750, there is a bigger one, twice the price.
