Base map loading issues
Hey everyone, I’ve got a quick question. I’m trying to load a base map on my turbo 1.6 using TunerStudio. I’m running an MS2 PNP and just updated the firmware. When I try to load a base map from Turbo Kitty, I get an error, and I haven’t been able to find much info about it online. It seems like the firmware doesn’t match the map, but the version looks the same except for the last two letters. I have attached a image of what I was seeing.
On a reddit post I made on r/megesquirt someone said this "The Firmware and the tune don’t like each other due to some differences somewhere. Load up the lastest firmware with a fresh blank tune. Then once that’s confirmed working, start the long manual process of copying over setting from that other tune you downloaded. Worked for me." in which I replied "Apologies but I’m new to all of this so bare with me please. I have the latest firmware installed. what do you mean by load up a fresh blank tune? Like open a new project? And then from this current project click yes on the warning and copy the settings? If this is what I have to do, what setting do I need to move over exactly?"
Any guidance from you would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Vex. The image isn't showing up, but I managed to find your reddit post and saw the pics there.
Hmm, honestly it has been years since I used Tunerstudio, sorry that I can't be a ton of help. Is this the site you downloaded the base map from?: https://trubokitty.com/#/tune
It has the 3.4.2 release firmware on that site that may be more compatible with the base map, as opposed to having the *latest* firmware available from msextra.
EDIT: just saw in your reddit image that the version is 3.4.4. Downgrade the firmware to 3.4.2 as mentioned above.
Personally I remember trying to find every manual and tutorial i could find for my relevant Megasquirt and just soaking up all the info as to what settings do what and stuff. Mainly I was always just trying to get a smooth and consistent idle, lol.
With base maps, there are a ton out there so you could try downloading and loading a different one, from DIYAutotune or something. Btw a project is different from a tune IIRC, so hit "load tune" so open a tune file.
Maybe a "fresh blank tune" is downloadable from MS/DIY etc. Or, you may be able to load a blank tune somehow. (sorry I dont have TS downloaded now so I cant even really try it myself.)
From there, yes if you can go into the tables in the tune that isn't working, and copy the values over to your new tables, that would be a good start. By tables, I mean VE and spark tables primarily.
Some of the other important stuff is going to be your ignition and fuel settings which can also be copied over.
There is quite a bit of documentation around MS PNP's especially with Miatas, on this forum and some others. Hopefully some extensive research can get you the answers you are looking for! Keep us updated on what works.

I actually had some more question about the turbo kitty tune and tuning in general now but I will make a new post about it and will be out by the time you read this. No pressure in answering those questions though as I hope many other great people like you will answer as well. Just letting you know so you can follow the journey.
