Default Track Dog Racing Intercooler modification

I have been using my TDR IC since 2008, and it definitely shows its age.

Way too much fin damage to allow healthy airflow.

I can have the core replaced locally for a fair price

My question is, should I go for a thicker core?
Current core is 16"x8"x3".
I can't increase the width or the height - would be a nightmare to fit the thing and reroute the piping, but I can opt for a 3.75" core.
The tanks will be modified to accommodate the thicker core.

Core volume is 6 liters now. A thicker core would give me 7.6 liters, and more "straws" to push the charge air through, as Joe Perez says.

I am using a progressive twin turbo setup at 18 psi currently.

Do you think it will be a good step to take, or would I be shooting myself in the foot guys?

Of all the dimensions to increase, thickness is the least effective. The added thermal mass will help with transients, but probably not a whole bunch with steady state. You will notice a delay with the increase in volume at tip in.

What do your datalogs tell you? Do you need more cooling?

Are you pushing into lower efficiency (PR) on your compressor?
