Default Running my Turbo Miata NA

Everyone, I have even dumber question than I had the last time. I have a buddy who I do track days with and recently with my turbo setup I'm absolutely wrecking him and it's become much less fun for us to get on track together. I had been trying to think of workarounds to reduce power so that we can be competitive with each other when we happen to do events together. Initially I had thought about disconnecting the charge pipes from the turbo but have heard that the turbo propellers will overspeed. He came up with what I think might actually be a good solution which is to leave my internal wastegate valve wide open such that exhaust simply bypasses the turbo and thus it makes minimal or no boost. What does everyone here think?

EDIT: For future reference, leaving my IWG disconnected from the flapper let it pin open and worked perfect. I made 1 or so psi of boost.

I think your friend needs a turbo.

you’ll never make no boost with the wastegate open, it’ll still be ~5psi but not until 6000rpm, at least on the Garrett turbo I had. You’ll be choked down low and peaky up top, an absolute terrible power band, but it may be the only solution unless you wanna remove the turbo entirely or he updates his power.

Out of curiosity, why did you run your setup like this? And also, thanks for the info.

Get faster friends, lol.

Switch cars for a session and he will be convinced to turbo.

Disconnect wastegate actuator from the arm and if necessary, put a restrictor at the air filter or turbo inlet.

Or you can get a trackrat NA miata and run against him It's cheaper than having him turbo his car and make it reliable. Y'all can go halfs on the new car and swap seats with the only drawback is you'll get passed by everyone and their grandma in the straights.

Ran with the wastegate wide open at Sebring. I was surprised how peppy my car was. Unfortunately still gapped him pretty hard everywhere, but the theory turned to reality. My map sensor only showed 106kpa at most and 103kpa was with the engine not running, so with the wastegate wide open I made a whopping 3kpa.

Running much slower tires on the turbo. Like 205 all seasons and let the N/A run 225/45 super200's.
If you do.., please video from both cars

That sounds like a wild ride! May actually do that out of the hilarity of it all.

That's why I suggested it . The whole idea is to have fun. Driving the high power car with no grip chasing around a grippy low power car is recipe for some fine shenanigans.

Cheao, easy and reversible too.

Despite having literally hundreds of hours of w2w racing experience, some of the most fun I've ever had was around a friend in hpde in n/a Miots.

You could also drop the rev limiter to 5500 on the turbo car.

Yea, I was shifting at 6500 and making almost no boost and I was still gapping him quite a bit. At this point I think his engine must also be unhealthy, but I love all of these suggestions for next time!
