Default General budgeting

So here is my general budgeting for a DIY set up , do you think this is along the right lines?
ETD mani - guesstimate $600 shipped to uk
T3 internal gate $200
Custom DP - $300
Ebaycooler - $200
BOV - $100
Oil lines- $100
Intercooler pipeing - $100
Miscellanious i.e heat wrap - $100
Injectors - $100
Total of $1800

Suddenly things seem to cost a lot more to go DIY than planned....
I already have DIY MS and WBO2 on way.

I don't see any exhaust improvements. What size engine?

Do you have the T3 already? What about cooling lines to it?

Im building a DIY MS already and also have WBo2. Its a 1989 mk1 1.6.

i would say double your "misc" bucket, at least. that stuff adds up so frickin quick...

zipties, oil, jbweld, vac tees, vac line, silicone couplers, clamps, etc etc etc...

I will do , Cheers! , No the prices are in Dollars.
Im not sure whether to be pleased with that estimate of cost or not.
Id self fab some piping but my welding is equal to that of a moron which possibly i am. I can never get the material to melt the welds just seem to sit on top. Maybe my feed is too fast...

i think for anyone looking to buy a bunch of parts and do reasonably minimal fab work themselves, with the goal of assembling a turbo setup capable of 200+, $2500 - $3000 should be the budget range to shoot for.

it's been done for less, but so far, if you're looking to save money and don't just buy stuff on a whim, you SHOULD be able to do it for that range.

as i mentioned, people have gotten by on less, but either by scoring screaming deals on components, or fabricating things themselves.

now, this also doesn't take into account things like clutch and rear end, or wheels/tires that will allow you to enjoy all the power you're new goodies can make. that's another 2k to do properly, again unless you score some really hot deals.

end of the day, upgrading to a 200 - 250 whp miata (from a 1.6, since not having to upgrade the rear in a 1.8 saves a decent chunk of change) runs in the neighborhoof of 4k - 5k, all said and done.

anyone can feel free to disagree with me, just my observations from a couple years on this board.

Forgot about the rear end
This is starting to sway me towards second hand Greddy / Begi S and then slowly upgrade every part. I know in the end it would cost more but im not sure I can afford to go for the one big hit. Also by then i may be able to fab some of my own parts.

honestly, the begi-s and greddy are great ways to start with something that works, all in one shot, and slowly upgrade. over teh course of your full path, you spend more money overall, but it's spread over a longer period of time that you actually have SOME boost.

the other option is to say "i'm going to boost in <insert amount of time here>" and start collecting components as you go along. that way you can spend less money oevrall and end up installing the "upgraded" path in one shot. that's what i did. i have a "greddy" setup, which now only has the greddy turbo and manifold. :-)

Yea I think I will build up a kit over time as i need to get my MS sorted first anyway and get used to basic tuning. Cheers for the advice devin.

ETD mani - guesstimate $600 shipped to uk (probably more for shipping, but i wouldn't get one of their manifolds, i've seen them first hand and the craftmanship is subpar)


in the end, you get what you pay for. no one has the money to do it right the first time, but then they have to find the money to fix it the second time. i don't think i know anyone who has done just 1 boost setup and been happy with it.

yeah don't forget clutch. my over-the-top intercooler piping has 20 clamps, which are $5 a piece. around-the-radiator setups will have more clamps. you can see where that would add up. decided what you're going to do (if you're going to intercool at all) and budget for those damn clamps!

i spent 1800 to get my car running. 1200 for the greddy and the other 600 for clutch, gauges, piping, intercooler, water pump, timing belt, etc. Dont forget your gonna be spending money during the install. Theres hardware and miscellaneous things to be bought.

Man, I never like to think about it, but it cost me close to 5k...
This DOES of course include extras like clutch, exhaust, rad/fans, tires, and a few other "supporting mods" along the way...Some of which is still waiting install...This was with little fab work of my own

i hate to think bout it, but i do really hope that when everyone posts up project costs and whatnot, they are talking bout the bits needed to actually boost...not the extras needed to maintain the extra power...

wieRtech what would you recommend instead of the ETD manifold. Is begi a good choice? I just dont want something thats likely to crack.

BEGi is good! One of the most reputable co. out there as far as Miatas go.
