I replaced the tb and wp on a 94 motor on a 90 chasis. The car started right up and idle fine. After about 5mins the car idles very low and like ****. Check the timing and it was at 14BTDC and smoke white out the exhaust. Very strong smell of fuel odor coming out the exhaust, make it seem like all that white smoke is a raw unburnt fuel. Prior to tb change the car ran fine. Also when I give it a gas when it idle like ****, it hesitates like a mother ******. Any thoughts? Maybe I should do a compression test or check the fuel injector seals?
Can the timing belt be off and still show spark at the right place? since the belt connects to the valves and not the spark? or is the crank position taken by a sensor on the cam?

I'm sure it's not coolant. The white smoke smells straight up like a raw fuel. I will check the timing again along with timig belt. Last time I checked the timing belt it was on right, when it was TDC.
+1. fuel is black and smells like.. fuel. Coolant is white/steamy and smells like honey. You may be seeing some moisture coming out of the exhaust from built up condensation and smell raw fuel from a misfire, but should still see black smoke unless you have a kick *** catalytic converter cleaning things up.
he said car was running fine before with that motor. TB in this case is timing belt, not throttle body. Can't imagine he would have changed the throttle body gasket while doing a timing belt and water pump.

y8s- yes on throttlebody coolant but I've never seen it leak that bad, usually it's undetectable except for missing coolant....but I suppose...

Wow, that's deal for that short block (IF it's good). But how often does somebody part out a car if the transmission grenades... at least that's what the ad makes it sound like.
