Ok so lastnight Phil, levnubhin, and I changed out a leake cam seal that ive had. Both times I used an oem seal so I dont know what the hell is going on. This morning, its pouring out like a faucet. the surfaces to the head itself there the seal goes into do not look like they have any gouges or abrasions. Its only on the drivers side seal thats going this. HELP

Damnit Scott! I heard enough of that last night from Phil lol! Its not happening. now, the cam seal, that even boosted cars have to use...

dunno what to tell you really. i had mine leak when i had did my headwork. when i reinstalled the cam i didn't make sure the seals were in place...i literally just pushed it back in (after replacing my front seal of course) and never had an issue again.

 

I dont get it then. I really cannot understand why the hell this is happening again

yes - zip tie the cams to the tbelt and then unbolt them. That'll keep all the timing in sync - BUT you MUST make sure you don't roll the car, or move the crank, or the cams. But that will give you full access to seals. BTDT

 

How are you installing the seal? Explain exactly how you did it. Which way did you put it in? This thread is USELESS without pics.

 

its not rocket science putting in a seal pat. fwiw, someone else installed it before I did and it still leaked then.

Exactly. You'd pretty much have to be a dumbass not to get it right the first time. But you say you've done it multiple times and it's still leaking. So I asked you to explain how you did it as perhaps you are doing it wrong. Like:

Not pressing it in square to the bore.
Installing it backwards
Not lubing the seal before install
Not polishing the cam where the seal touches the cam
You have a groove wore into the cam and are pressing the seal in and it's landing on that grove. (in which case just don't push the seal in quite all the way as to avoid the groove.)

There, I didn't want to waste my time typing that, but I did. Lazy ****.

 

that's all i did...just removed the valve cover.

 

Yes simple -
* seal is fuxored
* seating surface is fuxored
* seal install is fuxored

sometimes cam gets scores on it and it destroys new seal. In that case You have to put new seal not into that EXACT old location, but 1mm aside from it.

 

^ what i was going to say. and make sure you do a good job cleaning the surfaces too.

 

see if when you took off the valve cover something like rtv or some kind of trash fell into one of the one passages. If it is clogged up it is very easy for a little bit of oil build up right there and push out the seal.
